Replacement for DuoTherm Heater?

Hello all,

We need to replace one of the Duo Therm Furnaces in our 1986 345 Motorhome.

Has anyone done this? What would be a good replacement for this furnace?

It is Model 901 30-001

We don't have any idea, but look forward to hearing the suggestions since we may need to know one day ourselves.

We also have a '86 345. I replaced the furnace in the front under the sink with a new unit that is installed / serviced from the outside. I can provide model information and pictures of the install. It sounds harder to do than it turned out to be. I spent about 4 hours installing the new furnace and it looks like it came from the factory. I had taken the old one to the Airstream plant in OH which was a big waist of time. They charged a couple hundred dollars to tell me they could not fix it since they do not have the parts (it needed a new fan motor). We are still using the original furnace in the rear bedroom and it works like new once taken out and cleaned.

Hi Wayne, both of ours worked fine 6 months ago, now all they do is blow cold air what is the model number?

Pictures and model number would be great. The one that has failed is the same as yours - Up front under the sink area.

I replaced the front heater on our 345 with an Atwood 8500 series heater available from any RV dealer or Camping World. See the attached pictures for more detail.

In August our front furnce would not lite and we found critter nests in the exit port. After cleaning the exit out, it still would not lite and so we broke out the little portable electric heater for the front and ran the back furnace.
Our propane monitor indicated that the tank was full.

When we got home, we took the furnace out a few times and eventually decided that we would try to replace it. Well, it turns out that these furnaces aren't made any longer so we said we'll look around during the winter and try to find a suitable replacement.

Meanwhile, I read somewhere (either here or in the Airstream manual) that the front furnace will not actuate heating when the propane is too low - in order to keep the occupants sleeping in the rear warm while sleeping.

So we talked it over and noted that we had acutally ran the propane quite a bit during the cool spring trip to the beach and our 5500 camping trip this summer and the 7 rallies we had been to and that a 3/4 full reading might be an incorrect indication of the propane level.

We decided to fill the propane just before putting the baby up for the winter last weekend. When we returned, my husband decide to "give it a shot and low and behold it worked! Yippee!!! The manual was right!!!
