Removing privacy curtain so air conditioner can be removed

I have a 1975 TradeWind. I wanted to remove the air conditioner and make sure its sealed well. Possibly replace it. Its the original armstong air conditioner and it looks like its seen better days. I have removed the external shroud and MOSt of the 50 screws attaching the air conditioner flange to the AS roof (several screws will not come out). Now I moved inside and for the life of me cant figure out how to remove the privacy curtain header so I can remove the inside air conditioner duct. It looks like I would have to disassemble the cabinets etc.. to get the header out. I already broke the inside air conditioner cover by trying to work it past the header (it was extremely brittle and didnt take much to crumble). I have searched the formums looking for info on removing the air conditioner but could find no info on the inside duct. Any help would be great.

We have a 1974 29 ft Ambassador. The original air conditioner still works like a champ so we kept it -- though it is noisy. maccamper did do a lot of cleanup on the unit so it is quieter than when we first got the trailer.

We didn't need the privacy curtain and the header looked awkward so both went away early on in the renovation. maccamper couldn't see how to easily disassemble and remove the header. So, he ended up drilling out the rivets and then using his trusty Sawzall to cut out the header.

Further along in the renovation we removed the wall oven and cut back that wall a bit. He used some trim he had saved from other places in the trailer to finish off the edge of the remaining wall.

That approach has worked well for us.

Did you ever learn a trick to remove the AC shroud? Or, how to remove the header?
I have a 79 Ambassador and need to lift the AC off the roof, but I too can't see how to get into the unit without removing the shroud. Surely, there's a way to get the shroud off, without destroying the header with a SazAll. Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure how closely the a/c shroud on our '74 resembles your '79, but the outside shroud lifts off after removing the screws on the top of the shroud. It is not necessary to separate the uppper half from the lower half, the leak protection is provided by a pan under the shroud.

On the inside of the trailer, I believe the only way the header/curtain track can be removed is by taking out one or both of the upper cabinets, maybe even loosening one of the side walls. Major pain unless you are doing a significant redo of the kitchen. Hopefully the '79 is different.

I found that on our trailer a good deal of the batt insulation inside the shroud had come off and gotten into the squirrel cage fan and created an imbalance in the cage. That produced a lot of noise and vibration. Once the insulation got cleaned out and the fan was more balanced, it got a lot quieter.

I had the same problem. How to get the top rail of the privacy curtain out.
One day I just decided to push up on it and VOILA! It popped right out.

I wish it were that easy
It's the interior shroud that I need to remove so that I can get to the lenghthy bolts to release the unit from the roof. The small electrical box seems to be what's keeping the shroud from sliding backwards from in between the curtain header and the ceiling. I'll try disassembling the box and see what happens. thanks.
