Cool Air conditioner processor

I have a ford chassis with f-150 chassis 97 air stream cutter with and air conditioner problem. No freon. Filled it to specified temp pressure. Total 57 oz freon (ozone friendly type) still does not appear to be working. Someone told me that some compressors wont run unless it has enough. What would the capacity be for this type. Any suggestions.
