It'll depend on locale. Good point.

Replacement Air Conditioner

The trailer is home with the new air conditioner.
Temperature differentials in the 28-31 degree range.
Also the compressor is much quieter. We never had the unit blow this cold, I measured 38 def F return air temps at 92 deg late yesterday. I have found the infrared thermometer to be a must have tool.

What brand, size and type AC did you install?

Air conditioner not powerful enough or what?

Our first trip with our then new 2001 27' Safari was in a full sun site on a 104 degree weekend. The Safari came with the then standard 13.5k Penguin. Camped next to me was my former 30' Sob white trailer that had a 13.5k Duo-Therm Brisk air. That owner was on his first trip also with the trailer. As the day went on we got to about 86 F inside. It really was uncomfortable. The white SOB was about 78 inside.

I took the trailer back to the dealership and he said that everything was within specs. The problem was that aluminum does not reflect heat like a white trailer does, and that my Safari was a giant heat sink. I took the trailer to JC and they also pronounced all was well. They did verify that there was a proper baffle in place where the refrigerator compartment contacts the ceiling (a cause of heat intrusion). They did realign my door also.

I decided to add a full length street side Zip Dee awning. This attached to a midline hook when the awning was extended. I never had a complaint about heat again after I had that awning put on. Hence I learned the shiny isn't reflective and when I had my Classic built, ordered the then optional 15k Penguin. If you travel in hot climes, full sun sites, you need awnings and plenty of A/C
capacity.

I think the key is the amount of sun exposure you are getting. In my case the heat gain on all that exposed aluminum, with the insulation provided was simply greater than what the 13.5k Penguin could maintain. The output of the A/C unit maintained the proper threshold from the air intake, but as it got hotter outside, the inside temps slowly crept up.

In calling Jackson Center, I asked them what was the design level of performance that I could expect between indoor temps and outdoor temps on my Safari. I was told at that time that there was no standard that they followed. The 13.5k unit was the largest A/C unit available at the time, and if that wasn't sufficient for the weather I camped in, in would need to add a second unit. As long as we were getting that 20 degree drop across the coils, the unit was operating within its specs.

Well I do use the awnings and my roof is white. And the ducted ac is very efficient I find.

Seems 78 is a good setting for me. Lower than that gets too cold.

100+ temperatures in the sun are tough to overcome. Maximizing the efficiency of your AC as discussed previously is the first line of attack.
Another thing that will help is to seal off as best you can one end of the trailer untill after the sun goes down. Open a closet door and seal up with pillows and blankets. It's a compromise but everything is in one way or another.
