'68 Sovereign & AC Replacement

We found out the AC on our AS is seized up. But the dealer did not want to touch it. Said it would make a mess of the roof. The AC unit has part of it inside and part of it outside. Has anyone out there done a replacement of this type? I'd really love to have AC back in the trailer.

Replacement AC

I replaced my AC in my 1969 31 foot Sovereign. There was a guy who came to the house here in KC area. He was listed in the yellow pages as mobile RV repair, I think. It has been probably 8 years. He put in a Coleman AC unit. No it does not connect to the drains like the old one did. It "sweats" its condensation down the outside of the airstream exterior aluminum walls. It works well for us. Don't remember the size of the unit BTU-wise. Overall cost was ~$900. Good luck!

'68 Sovereign & AC Replacement

The original Armstrong bay breeze ac unit is worth saving. All industrial parts you can still buy parts for it. You will need a licensed refrigeration technician to recharge it when your all done with repair. Do a search on this forum for Armstrong ac there is a good write up somewhere on here about replacing the compressor and fan
