Hi

Absolutely beautiful weather in Wyoming right now. The 10 day forecast for West Yellowstone looks fine so far. The parts of I-94 I was on were in much better shape then the parts of I-90 I've been on.

We are going to arrive Wapiti Campground (Cody area) Sept 19 ... depart for Jackson National Elk Refuge on Sept 27 .. a little concerned right now ... the news last night talked about forest fire at Cody area. about 1000 acres and 0% contained .. might spoil our trip if they can't get it controlled in time

What do you do about cooking and coolers

T-minus 3 days!! We are heading to GTNP and Colter Bay RVP and wonder what people do with larger coolers and small grills? Can we put an empty cooler in the back of our pickup? We like to use an "Old Smokey" small charcoal grill. We can dump the coals and hose it down to cool it, but do people then put them inside their trucks or trailers?

Also, next week the weather is starting to look iffy. Bringing books, videos, planning on late mornings.

Yahoo! Chill is in the air at night, pack accordingly! Should be starting to see some color popping up. Still planning on connecting with you either in Yellowstone or Grand Teton since you were able to escape earlier and add that to the trip. What's the updated sched/camping locations for the GT/YS segment?

Just left Bakers Hole, West Yellowstone Tuesday morning...lots of sites, beautiful weather but trees not quite turning yet. Temps were in high 70s in the day, and got down to 39 in morning there. Same with Tetons...

Didn't see any animals on drive down thru Yellowstone to Tetons, except couple deer...not even a Bison!

Second night in Tetons, Signal Mountain, on Jenny Lake...if you get there early before 11am, you can usually get a spot. 90 miles from Bakers Hole...nice time to drive early morning...not so much traffic. Pics are of Maddison River which runs thru Bakers Hole...also Jenny Lake yesterday morning...currently we are in Flaming Gorge...no one here! Enjoy....

Hi

The weather could be just about anything two weeks from now. It was in the 90's yesterday in eastern Wyoming and will be in the high 80's today. It should hit 80 today in West Yellowstone. Indeed cold nights and cool mornings are pretty much guaranteed. Bright sunny day today

At some point over the next two weeks I probably need to go propane shopping .....

We head out from Oregon on the 13th, be in YNP 17-21 (Canyon and Madison CG's), from there we head over to Rushmore/Badlands, the Buffalo Roundup at Custer SP on the 27th, then back home. Seems like I have planning this trip forever and it will finally be here, can't wait either, just need to get all my work done before I go! Look for us, the 16 Bambi Sport + White Tundra

So all you western adventurers, I'm curious about how you handle the below freezing temps? Do you winterize? Do you stay at a CG with hookups in order to run the furnace? Do you run a gennie?

This time of year, furnace is plenty, and even then I sleep with it set to 50 degrees or so with a nice comforter for me is fine. That's enough to heat the underbelly if that's even needed. Mid to high 20s for a few hours, probabyl not a big deal anyway. Crank it up when I wake up, gets toasty in moments. Hopefully with enough solar to recharge batts each day, otherwise generator to recharge. I tend to avoid CG's with hookups.

In 'deep' winter which I occasionally do, I dry camp and if I use my toilet I flush it with antifreeze. Just keep a 6 gallon water tote inside for water needs, and use furnace but also a Little Buddy propane heater during the day (never sleep with that on). If electric hookups in winter, dry camp still to avoid furnace, and use small electric heater for the coach.

Thanks for the beta, I plan on posting up at Baker's Hole, first time there for me. Playing GT by ear, maybe boondock, or just walk up at Signal, Coulter Bay or Gros Ventre. Nice pics, thanks.

I do find that I have better luck with wildlife just staying home, plenty of it around town!

The fire grew considerably today. 10,000 acres as of this morning. Apparently it is in a wilderness area with lots of dead, standing timber between Cody and Yellowstone. The last I heard, a Type II team took over, but no containment efforts were being undertaken because of safety concerns, and I assume the wilderness designation. With all of the dead timber, this is probably an area that needs a fire anyway.

We're starting to see some smoke and haze in the Bighorns. We had a gorgeous bright red moon last night. It doesn't look like it should effect Yellowstone, but I would keep an eye on Highway 14/16 between Cody and the east entrance. At best, it's going to be smokey. I'd watch the Inciweb for the Fishhawk Fire and the smoke map.

Don’t miss the Buffalo Bill Museum of the West in Cody. The museum is associated with the Smithsonian and very well curated. There are five sections, Natural History, Western Art, Firearms, Plains Indians, as well as the life and time of Buffalo Bill Cody. Your ticket is good for two days and we spent over three hours/day there. We were in Cody in mid August, on our way to Yellowstone (stayed at Grant Village) and Grand Teton (stayed at Gros Ventre (excellent!)). Grant Village was tight for our Sport 22FB. We loved Gros Ventre and will go back next year.

We do a little bit of all of it. It’s gotta get pretty cold to keep us from using our Airstream. I think our record cold temp is 9 degrees F.

This morning at Bald Mountain Pass up in the Uintas near Park City not far from me. Granted, 10,000+ foot elevation, but still, the point is made. Snow easily could appear anytime going forward now in Tetons or Yellowstone. Just hoping not! But the good news is it will be gone by 9 or 10 am every day if any does appear.
