I had more hours flying by hand than the automatic pilot.

14 hour flights by hand would be difficult.....but maybe less boring.

Glad you enjoyed the clip.
A follow-up:
- immediately after the incident, an Air Canada spokesperson and group of engineers piled into a van and headed to Gimli. However, they couldn't find the airstrip and ran out of gas
- the children of FA Susan Jewett and passenger Pearl Dion became pilots
- even though the flight crew was acquitted of any negligence by the commission and attributed the incident to gross "corporate deficiencies,"
Air Canada did not acknowledge either Captain Pearson or FO Quintal for their skills or airmanship. Many international organizations did recognize them - like the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. Both were awarded the Diploma for Outstanding Airmanship
- the salvage company which purchased the Gimli Glider have left it in a flyable condition. The people of Gimli hope to raise the funds to bring their most famous airplane home someday
- Air Canada, a Crown Corporation in 1983, has since been privatized.
massey, a landing still takes a high degree of human skill. My friend gets tired of comments like "What good is the co-pilot?" or "Can't the plane land itself?"

Oh, and it should be mentioned that one or two passengers saw a vintage AS TW on the descent into Gimli.

Aage, Airstreamers have occasionally been spotted on the wing. We can't help it - it's that aluminum and rivets thing again.
We all look the same, apparently. Non-Airstreamers find it to be quite amusing.....

Flea Marketin' - On the Road
If there's room to park the FaN, I can't pass a roadside flea market, yard sale, or thrift store.
When I spotted this globe aquarium at a roadside flea market....
....I knew it had lots of potential. Now it's my Mother Earth Salad Bowl...
.....or Round the World Punch Bowl....
Best of all, it was cheap (five bucks). I probably could have bargained for a lower price, but felt bad for the seller. (A little old man with no teeth).
It's very lightweight too. (Acrylic, not glass).
Fuel consumption....fuel consumption.....

Right.
An aquarium martini bowl. As my mother would say, "S/he drinks like a fish."
BTW, how did this morph from aviation into drinking?
My flying friend would be impressed!

No problem, glad I could help. After all it was just the PLANE truth, nothing but the truth...the plane was there for all to see. I need to stop before this becomes PLANELY insane.

Foraging.....On the Road
What the Kazoo plant is to some parts of the U.S., wild blackberries are to B.C.
I have seen wild blackberries devour an entire barn! They can be very invasive. However, the berries are delicious. We are in the midst of a blackberry bonanza. Foraging for wild blackberries, blueberries, huckleberries, and salmon berries can be an enjoyable and delicious part of being on the road.
Today I found these blackberries growing out of a cedar hedge along the side of the road. I stopped and started picking.....
Within a couple of minutes my bucket was full.....
What to make....what to make? I know there is some stale chocolate cake in the FaN's freezer, some whipping cream in the fridge, a box of Dr. Oetker's chocolate mousse in the pantry, and a bottle of Three Olives cake-flavoured vodka in the cabinet. Perfect fixings for a drunken chocolate-blackberry trifle!
I started to mash the berries, added some sugar, and the Three Olives vodka....
Then it went into the fridge to soak up the sugar and vodka for a few hours.
In the meantime, I took the stale chocolate cake out of the freezer and cut it into cubes, and whipped-up the chocolate mousse.
Just before dinner, dessert is ready to assemble. I layer the cake, vodka-soaked berries, mousse, whipping cream....and repeat.
Oh man!.....was this good. I think the secret is the boozy berries.....that lucious, rich, purple nectar permeating the cubes of chocolate cake.....
Foraging on the road....*hic*.....I think I like it! *hic*

Hi, we did some free Black Berry picking ourselves while camping in Salem, Oregon.
Oh, and we picked some free lemons too, but that was at our house.

We have a rule around here. Only eat blackberries higher than your waist.

I like the idea of a kazoo plant—flowering into kazoos every spring, free for the picking and then serenading everyone at the campground.
The kazoo plant is related to the Bird of Paradise.

Hi!...and Wow! Lemons in the backyard. Unheard of in the Great White North.
The only lemon in my backyard was an aged MGB.
