Timber Ridge Campground Traverse City

We reserved a 3-day spot at a campground in Traverse City that we had to pay for up front and were told not to expect a refund if we have to cancel. This is the first time in our first year of camping that we've experienced that. Is it because we booked within 10 days of arrival or is that pretty common?
