Route advice, Ohio and Kentucky

I would like any recommendations on traveling from Hocking Hills State Park to Kentucky Horse Park Campground. The smaller roads would seem more scenic, as the route to Aberdeen, but not sure how tight the turns are and any bridges that might be a concern.

US-27 and US-62 are both good roads in Kentucky, if you are crossing at the US-27 bridge at Cincinnati. I've been on that road and some areas of US-62 through Cynthiana, KY. (Coming down US-62 you'll come close to the Toyota plant in Georgetown, they offer 3 tours daily, M-F).

In Cincinnati you can also cross on the John A Roebling Suspension Bridge, the one shown near the start of Rain Man. You would then head over to US-27 in Newport, KY.

From Hocking Hills in Ohio you will need to do some scouting and decide if you want to use one of the other (few) bridges across the Ohio. (Maysville and Portsmouth)

Federal highways are usually a good bet, but not always. We got onto some really bad US roads in Arkansas and Mississippi (US-82). I have used Google Maps Street View to show the roads and make a choice.

Rich, I would rather take a diagonal route which would take me through Chillicote, Waverly, Peebles, Maysville, etc. Do you have any experience with the roads and bridges on that route?

Drop down to US32 towards Cincinnati. Follow to US62 to Ripley. In Ripley makes Left onto US52 at the t-intersection. Follow to the bridge and cross over on US68. Follow all the way to Lexington.
We tow this multiple times a year with our AS. Good roads. No problems.

My husband and I grew up in Portsmouth area and were just back there this past spring. You should be fine on your stated route. Small towns and rolling green hills. The bridge in Maysville carries lots of traffic, it shouldn't be a problem. 68 in KY is s beautiful drive.

I have been on many of these roads and it will be relaxing and scenic ride.

Hi Rick, sorry for the delay. We were on a long journey, just got back today, didn't have WiFi for much of the time and not much time to cruise the forum.

I don't have any experience in south Ohio. I live in central Kentucky and used to work at Toyota in Georgetown, hence my recommendation for their tour.

Fort Boonesborough State Park (https://parks.ky.gov/parks/recreatio...boonesborough/) is just south of the Lexington area. They have a decent state park on the Kentucky river. There is also a historical Fort Boonesborough town next to the campground where you can take a self guided tour of different buildings with people in period costumes. We took our scout pack there once. Everyone had a good time. Warning, the campground is next to a busy road with truck traffic. With your A/C on it is not bad.

South of Lexington is Shaker Village (https://shakervillageky.org/) This is an interesting place to visit, you can spend an entire day there. There is a private campground close to it. We stayed there and it's nice. Bathrooms needed some updating but that was 4 years ago. (https://chimneyrockrvpark.com/). It sits on the shore of Herrington Lake.

You probably know about the bourbon trail distillery tours. Louisville is about 80 miles east of Lexington and there are many attractions there as well.
