Hi Neighbors! We are in LaGrange, and not too far from you! Welcome! Larry and I have been south to FL many, many, many times from here in OH, as my folks lived in FL for 30 yrs. They lived in the panhandle at Niceville, close to Ft. Walton Beach area. We made the trip down I 71 and to I 65 south. Stayed on I 65 to Rt. 331 at Montgomery, AL. We found the mountains no problem at all and the roads were all pretty good. It will depend on where in FL you are headed. You did not say! I 77 in WV is very hilly and part of it is tolled, I believe.
Maybe someday you will be able to stop by and do some driveway camping. I think Vermilion is only about 25 min. from here. Keep your eyes on the Northern Ohio threads. We have had a bunch of nice of rallies and we would love to meet you! Good luck with your plans.

It would depend on where you are aiming for in Florida.
I-71 to I-61 to west Florida
I-77 to I-26 to I-95 to the east coast.
I-75 to Central Florida and the Gulfcoast Tampa/St.Pete/ Sarasot/ Ft. Myers.
Or, do you all avoid I-75? Busy but direct. Also a pretty road to Atlanta, then again in Florida.
We live in St. Pete. FL and use I-75 as an escape route all the time.

Been up and down the I-77 route many times to and from Cleveland area. 77 is much shorter, and more scenic. In this period of high fuel prices shorter is better!!

OK going to COCO Beach FLA
East Coast
End of March
Sounds like 77 south is the best way to go
I will try it (if weather is bad I'm going back to the 71 route)
I let everyone know which way I went after I come back
I sure I will not be talking to anyone on this site while I'm on the road because nothing is going to break on the beast this trip!!!

I 71

If you take 71 to I 65 you go through less congested areas. Not quite as scenic, but a good road. The scenic part of this route takes you down Rt. 331 south from Montgomery into FL. Then east along the FL coast near the Gulf of Mexico. From there the trip east is pretty easy. May take just a bit longer, but traffic is not too bad.

I gave up on traveling I 77 years ago. The W Va tnpk is so rough it rattles everything in the trlr or MH. I 75 is a little longer and you have to deal with Atlanta, but I still prefer to go that way.

New River Gorge

Planning a trip to New River Gorge in WV. Any suggestions for towing from Tampa to New River Gorge, WV (Southern WV/Beckley area) appreciated.

Traveled to north central WV years ago w a van and much smaller camper that pushed us down several mountain roads that we’d like to avoid this trip. Will set up a home base this time then explore without Airstream but have to get there first.

Thanks.

How about I 77 in 2023?

369goose, How was your trip to the New River Gorge?
Anyone else, we’d like to head up to the Midwest from NC Triad area next spring. I77 through West Virginia looks like the obvious route, with a stop near Beckley. Any hassles with the tunnels and tolls? Better alternative routes? 19 parallels I77, but usually those toll roads are built for a reason.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
