Parking at the marina

We recently enjoyed a unique stay about 30 feet from the edge of a little harbor serving Lake Superior. Not sure how many marinas do this but this place parks RVs along the shore next to the boats. Since we were there before the season really began we ended up right in the middle of a line of drydocked boats.

There were a few people out working on the insides of their boats to get the cabins ready for summer but other than that it was quiet.

Lake Superior is one of the hidden pleasures of the US. We've been to the UP and can't think of a more beautiful shore and it's quiet. Where is this hidden gem?

Lakehead Boat Basin in Duluth. From the canal park area you go over the lift bridge and it's one of several private marinas off to the right of the main road by a couple blocks.

We have stayed at the motel right at the lift bridge and walked by the Marina many times. My wife has talked about camping there also. How much do they charge, and are there full hook ups? Can you park by the water?

We've stayed at Lakehead Boat Basin a handful of times. Prolly planning a May weekday trip there. Even hit Lake Superior in August 2010 when it was so warm you could actually swim along Park Point!

Love the view of the lift bridge and claxons announcing arrival of a different Laker any time of day or night. Lakehead Boat Basin is reserved at least a year in advance for for any and all popular Duluth draws -- Grandma's marathon, Tall Ships, Blues Fest. It's pretty rustic staying on the asphalt where they haul out the sailboats for the winter. But at least they have a nice bathroom/shower for patrons to use.

There is 50a and water at each site and a dump station near the exit. They charge the going rate. You can park by the water.

Lake Superior Marina RV Camping

There are a couple of other places at or near to marinas to RV camp on Lake Superior. East in Ashland, WI is the city c/g next to their marina. In Cornucopia, WI the marina has a couple of spots for RV's. Washburn and Saxon Harbor, WI both have c/g's next to their marina. At the Soo east of the locks is a c/g right on the water.

Canada's Nipigon River Marina allows rv camping as does their neighboring town of Red Rock which has a marina that allows RV camping as well. Just east of Rossport is a Provincial Park right on the water. Neys PP also has camping right on the water

Marinas on the big waters cater to overnight boaters and they rent slips to them. You can always ask if they would rent you a space in their parking lot or boat storage area. You might have to dry camp, but that could make the price negotiable.
