Even a rainy day at Edisto Beach is a good day.

Edistobob... Thanks for the advise.
If your plan is to travel today (Saturday), it's going to be a unpleasant journey towing from KY to SC, right through the worse part of the heavy rain storm. If it were me, I think I would delay traveling for one day.

The best day of the year at a beach is the day after a good storm. If I did not have an appointment this Wednesday I would ask for your reservations.

Been on the beach at Edisto under an evacuation threat. Little water came over the dune but surprised the rangers by coming up from the back bay close to the entrance because the last 2 wind driven tides could not get back out Jermy.

We have reservations from Sunday (tomorrow) through next Saturday at Hunting Island State Park. They are telling us right now that they have 4 inches of standing water in the campground, and they have "encouraged" us to re-schedule our trip. HOWEVER, we have planned this for a year. We thought well, we'll move the reservations to the kids Spring Break 2016 — NO GO ... already booked up. So, we thought we'd transfer to the pan handle of Florida — NO GO ... not one available campsite on the pan handle. It is a long way to drive on the outside chance of a cancellation. So, we are monitoring and may leave in the AM to head to Hunting Island.

So if you arrive, we are interested in a report!
Thanks
D

Jane,
Thanks... We decided that we will leave Sunday morning. That will have us arriving around 3pm.
We also looked at changing plans with no success.
So we are packed and ready to head out early in the morning. The ranger at the office said they got little rain yesterday. We plan on calling then later for a final update.

Looking at Weather Bug it is going to rain at Edisto till this evening.
If you site is at the beach is the site itself under water or just the low spots.

Looks like you will be heading into the rain as you leave home.

Be sure to do a check on Sunday before you head down Hwy 174 to the beach. The causeway into Edisto Beach has been closed this afternoon. At this point I can't predict if it'll be open tomorrow, but I'm thinking the water will likely recede by then. The Colleton County Sheriff's office or the Edisto Beach police should be able to give you the latest on the causeway situation.

Lots of the coastal flooding is also due to highest tides of the year this past week. Causeway flooding may be due to time of high tide.

No, nothing specific. You may want to check with the Beaufort County Sheriff's office for the latest. And those of us around here will really be surprised if the Edisto Beach causeway is a problem tomorrow, especially by afternoon. If it is, it would probably be around high tide, which is around 2 am and 2:30 pm tomorrow.

I apologize if this is hijacking the thread. But as someone who is moving to a coastal part of the country this years I wonder: Given all the discussion and negative opinion's about buying a trailer that was delivered on salted roads in the winter this past year....does anyone worry about driving on roads that have been under salt water from tidal action?

Just curious if there is a different dynamic towards salt corrosion that comes into play.

Edistobob,
Thanks. We did talk to ranger. They indicated that the closure was due to high tide. That and the additional rain we are pushing our arrival to Monday.
Thanks again!
