Any problems with Gel Memory Foam mattress toppers in freezing temps?

My wife and I just bought a Novaform Comfortluxe Gel Memory Foam 3" mattress topper for our bed at home, and it's SO wonderful that we want to get one for the Airstream. However, I have a concern that it will be damaged in freezing temperatures... And even if there's no damage from freezing temps, what will it take to get it warm again after traveling in the cold?

I would value any experiences that others can share!

I don't have memory foam, but I hate getting in a cold bed. I have an electric blanket under an egg crate foam topper. Turn it on for an hour before bed and everything is warmed up. If I had to do it over, I'd get a blanket with individual side controls.

Dumb question (though there's no such thing as a dumb question, just dumb people asking them)— If you're worried about your mattress topper freezing, why not remove it and store it somewhere warmer? It's not like you're talking about the whole mattress. If you're talking about in transit, put it in the tow vehicle. If you're talking about in storage, take it home and tuck it in a closet.

When we traveled in freezing weather, we set the furnace on 55 deg. while we were traveling, then turned it up when we stopped for the nite.

I had a gel topper I got from Costco and there were no freezing issues, and, it does not feel cold for long once you climb in. It's not like you're trying to thaw an ice pack with your body!

We have had memory foam mattresses for years. No problems with cold or heat either

That would seem to be an excellent solution! I think I might be willing to give that a go... I heated blanket under a gel memory foam pad for an hour before sleep. Hmmmm....

Based on
everyone else's feedback, I think I'll try it without the heated blanket first to see what results I get.

We love our pad like yours and have not had it freeze up. We use it in cold places too! Just changed to our winter duvet with a down comforter on top and our nova form bed topper is great.

Thanks for all of the feedback on this.... I think we're going to give it a go! I'll see if we can get it on the bed before we leave on Thursday for St. Louis. Any suggestions on cutting it to fit? Butter knife, scissors, machete, reciprocating saw, chain saw?

We used our Cursinart electric knife that we cut our turkey and beef roasts with. Cut like butter. No mess either.

Be sure you unzip the cover and pull it back exposing the foam you want to trim!
We started, like you, with one on our home mattress. They are sure nice to have!! How did we get along before Costco? haha
