1957 Spartan a dream too close..

Ladies and gentleman,
We found this beatiful 55 ft long Spartan that was going to the scrap yard and we had to do something about it.
We are already fulltimers in the Avion, but when we saw this and jumped right away and between the Avion 38.5ft and the Spartan 55 ft that's a lot of extra space for fulltiming.
So here are some pictures of the rescue mission...

Hi guys,
we originally had the plan of gutting it and re doing the whole thing, it's so huge! plenty of room for full timing.
Unfortunaltely we found that in FL this beauty is titled as a mobile home and that law will not let us park it on a property and live in it because of its age.
Only option is to live is on mobile home parks and our goal was to be able to get few acres and live in it until we built, but some burocrats decided that we can't do that...
So we have decided against our will, dreams and desires to let it go....
The Spartan found a new home in the Great State of Texas! This great couple has already 2 Spartans and a big property by a river and they will bring this beauty back to life!
Now we are in the stage of getting it road ready for transport, and honestly we are supper excited entertaining the idea of us taking it to its final destination!
It will be so nice if we can complete the rescue mission from start to end, it will make us feel proud of the rescue and been able to say: Mission Acomplished !

Yes!
we got an overlength/oversize permit to pull this puppy down the road. DOT doesn't really like very long things down the road...

Any trailer supply store that sells axles, parts for axles, etc.

Take your old backing plate in and they can match it up.

Here are some pics of the drum, studs will have to be replace son few are missing and broke while the first rescue mission.
But we are mainly concern about the the rust in the armored plate....any source for these drums? We will see if someone locally can machine them but the damage seems to deep...
Any source or idea about the drums?

Awwww. Sorry to hear that you can't keep it and do what you wanted with it. But, thank goodness someone ELSE is interested in reviving the old girl!

Please ask them to keep us posted here once they have it!

Yes, we are so sad...we had great plans, but it wont happen now...
The couple the got it has great ideas and this is their 3rd Spartan, they are ver VERY nice people and now we are trying to help them to get the Trailer in road worthy condition. They want to restore the trailer and now it looks like it will start from the running gear and going up.
Again, I only have good words about them and how aware they are of everything and of all the unexpected things that can be a huge challenge.
We hope that we get to do the honors of transporting it to its new home.
But now we have to fix this running gear...

Axle options

We see that springs has to be replaced.
the armored plate ( where the magnet slides ) appears to be beyond recovery.
Worst case scenario, is there any source for new running gear?
We are told that the drop axle is not a matching problem, that the issue is the 3 inches off set of the new axles vs the 0 offset of the old ones.
2 questions then:
1) Does anyone knows where to get these drums/hubs so we can save this axles?
2) Is this 3 inches offset such a huge deal? can we just only get longer axles?
help please! I'm pretty sure here someone has an Spartan and replaced the running gear....
thanks
