It sounds like you will have to open up the floor and do some rust remediation there(cut & weld).
You should look in the forum under "frames and floors" and read some of the threads for more info. If you post pictures there you will get the best feedback possible.

I concur with Viking. You will need to pull the belly pan down to see the extent of the damage. You really do need to repair your frame damage. A good welder should be able to fix you up.

It's good to know that it can be repaired. I appreciate the help. I did'nt notice the damage when I bought it. I happened to notice the problem when I repalced the wheel bearings. I have'nt had a chance to use trailer yet. I've spent the last couple of weeks cleaning it up. 90% of the appliances and the upholstery has been replaced and or updated within the last 7 years. It's ready to be used and I can't wait.

Well I have got some time at home (until the 28th) and have started to do some more work on the GT. I found some new wheels on Craigslist that I couldn't pass up, but have not had time to have them mounted yet. For those of you that have removed the water tank from a 70's AS, the piece of plywood holding up the tank is real heavy. I think mine was 1 1/4" thick, but it also had some rot on it. I decided to make an aluminum plate to reduce the weight, and this is what I came up with. The hat sections are made out of 2024-T3 .063 and measure out at 1"X1"X3" and will be riveted between two pieces of .050 2024-T3 sheet

Great looking wheels and a interesting way to eliminate the rotting wood under the tank. Since you live in the world of white winters, do you have any concerns that the aluminum pan would conduct more cold to the tank then the original wood?

BTW, it was great seeing you last week in Fort Collins. In case you missed it, Rob and I shaved the new rivets on my street side awning on Sunday morning. It was move the snow, shave the rivet, move the snow, shave the rivet...

I left enough room to put a layer of rigid foam insulation in between the tank and new platform.

It was good to see you too. Without insulation and interior skin the cat. heater really caused alot of condensation in the GT which then froze at night. That rally really brought home the need to finish my trailer up, and made me reevaluate my heating needs
I brought a bore scope home from work to look inside the original forced air furnace. I'm glad I did as it was really rusted internally, along with old deteriorating wiring and the bearings shot on the blower motor. I now have a brand new one on order.

I'm not going to get a whole lot done as I am going on the road again on the 28th.

Glad to see you are still making some progress. You've got to stay home more! You will have one fantastic Airstream when you are finished. Are you getting an Olympic Heater? I can't wait to install mine.

I am currently disassembled until I can either find someone to make a new fiberglass shower pan for me or get the courage up to do it myself.

S with a Z, I am installing both a catalytic and a forced air.

The forced air is on order and I had not bought the catalytic that I wanted to install yet, until today. My wife and I were coming home from the Tree Farm with a new tree for the front yard and stopped at a Garage Sale at a farm house close to the tree farm. I bought a brand new, still in the sealed box, Olympic 6100a catalytic heater for 75 bucks. It's an older unit but works perfect. I'd rather be lucky then good anyday.

I finally got back from Peoria Ill. for awhile and my brother came over and helped me install the top sheet of the water tank platform. We shot the top sheet of .040 2024-T3 on with 1/8th countersunk solid rivets. A piece of 1/2 foam insulation will glue on top off this skin. This mod is going to save me alot of weight. I'm guessing somewhere around 50 lbs

Our buddy Roger in Ephrata picked up a Caravel he's redoing.

Lee and Greg are still waffling on their trailers but I'm hopeful we'll see them out on the road yet next summer.

Will pass on howdy's for you. And two different Caravel's. Roger (Ephrata, WA) also has that really badly damaged 61 Bambi he picked up last spring that the roof fell on (before he bought it) and a '62 Trade Wind. Of the three the Caravel is the keeper and he's busy repairing some damage it had when he bought it. The fellow in Langley I've not yet met but intend to soon. He sounds like a keener and is hard at his repairs too.

I think I will be using a combination of foil bubble and polyisocanurate, closed cell, and aluminum faced.
