Basecamp Learning Curve

Mr. Fowler, thanks for the insight on closing the gap between the tent and the rear qtr panels next to the steps. I'll try that this weekend as we go on our first ever camp out in the BC.

I had the BC back to the dealer a couple of times, and I believe they have the leaks fixed. Ben Owen at Airstream may have facilitated the dealer action with some helpful guideance from factory service. Heavey rains here in Houston this weekend and NO LEAKS.

Pulling up the steps from the inside is a tricky proposition, but not a show stopper for me. For some of the less agile though, it is a real challenge. Not being able to lock the doors from the inside is of slighty more concern. Will need to be alert when not in familiar territory. May need to consider more appropriate protective hardware when camping in unknown parts. Will need to check the laws here in Texas on such hardware options.

We'll load the Harley in tomorrow and hit the road Thursday for 4 days to really break the BC in.

I'll share our experience on our return. I'll try and get some pics.

Have a great time. I wish we could be going out. But since our BC was destroyed in the Chicago Airstream Dealer fire, we won't be going out for awhile. That combined with my knee replacement will keep me reading the forum. I will look forward to your pictures and post.

Bad luck

Carla, sorry to hear about the fire and loss of your BC. I trust they will make good in short order so you folks can get back on the road again.

We had our first toy haul and camping trip this last week. 4 days at a motorcycle rally. I carried the Harley, and we traveled well. GMC Envoy with 4.2l 6 cyl carried the load with no problem. I've got a few pics but don't know how to post them here. Any ideas?

Some warranty issues surfaced

Adheasive that holds the sink broke loose. Fortunately, there are brackets that also hold the sink in place.

Skylight cover would not stay afixed to the adheasive on the glass. With the heat, the adheasive fails. I tried velcro, but that didn't hold either. I taped aluminum foil over the skylight to cut off the radiant heat transfer. It helped.

A couple of rivets holding a ceiling panel in place was not seated.

A curtin snap/rivet mount was broke.

Seals coming loose around the rear doors, adheasive problem.

Do you see a recurring theme here?

Anyway, it goes in tomorrow for warranty service.

The tent went up with no problem. We put a tarp under the tent and indoor/outdoor carpet in the tent. Highly recommend that.

The motorcycle venue was a nice first use of the BC, but we're looking forward to a shady grove site to really take in the experience.

Good luck on the recovery or replacement of your BC.
