haha and reduced tire wear ???

This is for 2 air and any other haha users. Have you noticed reduced rear wheel tire wear with the Hensley. While not a scientific study I would swear I can tell the difference since installing mine. My only explaination would be there must be less side to side push on the rear of the tow vehicle. --Pieman

2air's answer will interest me. He had one severely worn tire from some other cause (not HA) at the midwest rally this last June.

hi pieman

i'll reply over in the user guide since others may have an opinion too...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f464...ide-26279.html

my tire wear is documented here, and specifically posts 48-58 deal with the recent wear on one tire...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f438...s-27999-2.html

as bob notes above, he saw the tire at moraine view, from there i went to j/c to sort this out...

cheers

ok now i get it, sorry for the confusion, and it makes sense to be a separate thread...

i still don't know the answer however.

i think you are right that the haha alters the forces on the tv REAR (driveline tires)

i don't know it that increases or decreases friction or sidewall forces (tv tires) compared to other hitches.

i've towed approx 50k with the haha.

oem bfgoodrich rugged trail t/a e rated tires, usually kept at 70-78 psi...

and rotated every 5k,

BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A

i expected NOT to like this tire, but they performed really well in all conditions and loads...

and were used for the first 45,000 miles of towing.

with ~6/32nds left (i could have gone another 10k) i went for new rubber.

bridgestone dueler at revos, here's a picture of them...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/438151-post960.html

i've towed approx 5,000 miles with this tire (just rotated) and the rear (drive)tire wear was...

4-5/32nds MORE than on the front (steering) tires...

really a significant difference in just 5 k.

why?

well i was tinkering with w/d and opted to adjust the haha spring bars so that less tension was on the bars and more weight on the rear axle.

it was fine towing this way BUT the extra rear load (approx 800lbs) really ate the tires.

so back to your question, perhaps your reduced wear is a result of better load distribution

clearly the haha allows for smaller increments of adjustment...

i'll post tv tire pics soon.

cheers

u realize this could be a VERY dangerous thread...

since it covers TWO of the hottest, most flame shootin' topics on the forums...

2air--- I am aware of introducing this subject but notice it is directed to to haha users. I am not implying this is why I or anyone else should purchase one. It was just an observation that I noticed the last couple rotations and wondered if anyone else had seen this too----pieman

I have pulled 25,000 miles with my HA, and have noticed that the TV tires are wearing very well. I do rotate the TV's tires on a regular basis, so I can't comment on front vs. rear. Also, my Suburban's rear wheel are steering wheels (Quadrasteer). My current Michelins E's have 20,000+ miles on them and are showing only minimum wear.
