Send a message via ICQ to Lyman
Quartzsite AZ

Interested in finding if is anyplace Airstreamers all camp together on BLM land in Jan during the rv show there. Found some posts but pretty old ones. Know you can use any of the BLM land but would prefer to be around other AS people.

I’ve asked this question before and so far have not found any Airstream groups that hang out in Quartzsite. Of course you will find a few friends clustered here and here. I have found that the Escapee Club (aka SKP) have many different groups that get together in various places around Quartzsite. If you are not an SKP member yet, I would encourage you to join or just look them up and find a group that appeals to you and go camp with them to see how you like it. Most SKP groups will welcome even those who have not officially joined. We camp with the Boomer group in an area we call “Boomerville.” The dates for our group’s official get together are 1/14/18 to 1/28/18. In Facebook search for “Escapee Boomers BOF” and you’ll find their page with some Quartzsite information. Just ask to join the FB group (here is no requirement to join SKP to join the FB group.)

If you are only going to be there for the show pay for a site in the section next to the show area. I think it was $40.00 for the week. you will be able to find a site that you can walk to the show from. If you are out in the hinterlands and drive in parking is at a perineum.

4 corners unit usually has a rally about that time so contact them.

We usually roll into Quartzite a week before the Tucson Rock Show in February.

Vinnie's (may still be the name) is on the east end of the 'strip' and just along the Interstate. There is a large highway billboard in the lot and still could be a stack of junked toilets there some year ago. It was around $5 a night, no services other than an outdoor privy of some sort. This is 'Boondocking in Quartzite' at best. For us... convenient if they will be open this season. A large vacant flat lot.

You can spot an aluminum trailer for miles as you drive to the exit to Quartzite. Two would be blinding. Four... a major sight for miners and prospectors to see what is going on.

We do not go to Quartzite for the view. There are no views. Actually, what you do find is much like what the Wild West had built along the Union Pacific Rail Road in the mid 1860's. Portable and many disposable. But... the month of December brings the Snowbirds into the area. We sometimes get diverted on the way to Quartzite and head over to Tucson for the real Rock Show.

If you are flexible and have good vision... you can find any Aluminum Trailer from a high spot, which may be parts of the Interstate or coming into the valley. Much like catching trout in a Rocky Mountain stream... you park for 24 hours... they will find...YOU. Just be patient, if the Airstreams are biting... you will be on the short list.

Have fun, get some exercise and pull your awnings in when not at camp as the winds can go from zero to forty, quickly and subside.

I'll be selling turquoise and my handmade jewelry at Desert Gardens this coming winter in my AS!

I'll probably be locked in and not easy to move it around but would love to hook up with any AS events in Quartzsite.

If you've never been there it's always fun especially if you're into rocks and minerals and swap meets. Plenty of places to camp; pay or BLM type

Desert Gardens is THE place to go nowadays aside from the Pow Wow which is the last event before everyone heads to Tucson.

I'm counting the days!
