Boondocking Locations in the Carolinas

Hi folks,

I'd like to start boondocking with our Overlander. Any good ideas on places to go in the NC/SC area?

Thanks!

I went to Modoc Corps of eng park in SC on the strom thurmomd reservoir.....they have hookups and a few non hookup sites. The campground map on the website is hyperlinked with pics of the sites. The loops are two narrow peninsulas that extend into the lake....awesome!
We were in site 10 on the right peninsula. Very private, heavily wooded. The next site at the tip of the peninsula is way out by itself by at least 75 feet or more and is a boondocking site with the lake view on all 3 sides. Here is the shot of my site when I was there.

Dave, I have heard more than once that Mile High Campground in the Smokies is awesome. Private owned but no hookups. Never been there. I have a map/brochure I can send you. Or their # is (828) 269.2945.

We have successfully overnighted at river and ferry access areas in the Carolina's,

Don't know if there would be a problem setting up camp for days, but we have found these areas perfect for roaming around those spectacular back roads. .

Hey guys
Thanks!

John, I found MHCG online and will look into it further. Maggie, ya'll could just put your hood up and get away with telling the cops you broke down....A little harder to leave the trailer on a pull out . C_Lewis- looks like an awesome site! Thanks

No-no---one of Doug and Maggie's rules of life: never, ever lie to the police.

Truly, though, we have never been accosted and asked to leave. Nobody cares if you are parked for the night off the road, as long as it isn't posted.

Try Smokemont in Great Smoky Mountain National Park! There are other spots also. Go to:
