Lightbulb Can I Plug my 30 amp airstream into a 40amp cricut with a 30 to 15amp dogbone?

Hi there,

New to the airstream community- as we just purchased our very first airstream today!

We just got it all level and are ready to hook it up to the electricity in our driveway. Only question is we have is about amps and we can’t seem to get our heads around it and are afraid to break something!! Never want to mess with electricity, haha.

Anyway- can we plug our 30amp airstream into our outbuildings 40amp (I think- we have two 20amp circuits??) service? We are pretty confused. We have two dog bones, one to move the 30amp to 15amp and one to move the 30amp to 50amp. Just not sure what to use or what we’re doing and we so badly want to get it all hooked up!!

Any information is helpful. Thank you and have a great day 😊

That 40 amp circuit is probably 220 volts, NOT what you want for your trailer. Use a regular 20 amp 110volt circuit and the dog bone.

Welcome to the forum, StreamingB!

You should have a licensed electrician review everything with you, and be sure to tell him or her that your 30 amp plug is for a 30 amp 120 volt circuit, not a 240 volt circuit for a welder's plug. The two different plugs look very similar IMO.

Your location in Canada throws some extra variables into the equation, and I would take very lightly any advice from south of the border from folks who may not realize this geographic difference.

I would recommend that you have a new outlet installed just for the new Airstream, and label it well.

Good luck,

Peter
