We've finally reached our goal !!!

Hi folks,

Roger and Christine from Newport Beach California here, we just got back from picking up our first Airstream, a 2006 23' Safari SE. We picked it up in San Luis Obispo and stopped for 2 wonderful days at El Capitan St park on the Pacific coast, it was a perfect maiden voyage !

We've been activly looking for an Airstream all year, finding these message boards and classified ads early this year. At first, we thought we would be getting a 19' bambi but after looking at a few and reading all the info from other buyers we decided to go slightly larger with the 23'. I had joined this forum with the username " bambi for me " but thought it was appropriate to change our name when we decided to buy the larger trailer. So if you see a Safari cruising down the road with "RognChris" painted on the back, give us a wave !

Our maiden voyage went fairly smooth, except that when we were hitching up to come home, I ran up the electric jack too far and it's stuck. It makes an angry noise when I try to bring it back down, I had to use a floor jack to get it off the truck and put it on a jack stand. Anybody ever had this happen ? Any help would be appreciated.

Anyway, after 25 years of dreaming about an airstream we now own one, it feels so fantastic !

Cheers, RognChris.

Welcome!

Hi RognChris, AKA "bambi for me". Looks like you found yourselves a great looking combo.

Only one bobble on you first outing is really good. Sorry can't help with the jack but I'll bet your not the first to do that.

Take a look here you may find an answer. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f457/

Congratulation on your 23'. The nice part about the forum is you can find out anything about your Airstream here. Beautiful Pictures!!!

Lisa,

What a fantastic thread on the 23', I waited and waited for an L-Lounge to pop up for sale but if one did it was always way too expensive or on the east coast somewhere. I got a great deal on ours, leaving room for updating it. Ours is a 75th anniversary model, I'm going to check into changing the front into an L-Lounge, as well as solar panels. I'll be ready for the spring trout opener in the Sierra...

I am not sure of the exact procedure to reset the limits on the power jack, but if you have the manual it explains it. If you get stuck again take the screws off that attach the power jack to the post and use the hand crank. Hopefully you have the crank, it looks like a small jack handle with a T on the end

Thanks Bob, I do have the manual, the T handle and the stuck power jack, hopefully this morning I can solve this problem,

Cheers, Roger & Christine.

From your photo, it appears that you are towing with just a ball, as well as the trailer not being level when towed??

If you are, that's a no-no, and a very good way to help cause an accident and/or personal injury, or worse.

In spite of your tow vehicle, a load equalizing hitch is a must.

Andy

Andy, thanks for your concern, the trailer has a "equalizer" load distributing hitch. In the photo, the bars aren't on yet, as I just pulled the trailer to a level surface to install the bars for the ride home, which was smooth as silk.

when running up the jack don't run it too long as I have gone thru many fuses before I realized it overheats and blows them easily and always wait for it to stop before reversing it, the plastic gear does not take well to stress

Congratulations on your find - will keep a look out for you - I am already planning all the places I want to visit next year. One trip is take my mother and sister to visit multiple sets of relatives all over the South and West United States. Neither of them like to drive very far from home. I love to drive so everyone should (hopefully) have a great time. I just hope my girlfriend can take a couple weeks off (lol). I should have everything ready by spring.
