We Found One

As of tomorrow, We should be the new owners of a very nice 11 year old Safari 25 footer. It took a while to find the right one, but it paid off. Other than a peeling clear coat, I didn't find a thing wrong with the trailer.

Any words of wisdom from the Airforum community?

No words of wisdom here, but congratulations are coming your way. We have a 30' AS, but I think a 25' must be a perfect travel and camp size. Clear coat peel seems to get them all; we just consider the blotchy complection of ours part of her beauty. At eleven years old, yours is just getting started in the Airstream world Hope we meet you in the Northwest camping someday...~G

Congratulations on the "new to you" purchase and welcome to the forum. Mine is officially 11 years old too and it has the peeling coat syndrom. We have though about getting it redone but not sure we want to put the $4,000 into it right now. Treat it kind and it will last you many years.

I know this may sound silly, but find and read the owner's manual. This is the same advice I've given to my three daughters. Take the time, read what the company has to say about how things work, make some notes, formulate some questions. I'm a firm believer that almost anyone can learn something from an owner's manual.

Hi Everyone,

All went smooth, and the new baby is home. As we have a 100 yard driveway with a 90 degree dogleg at the beginning, I had to back it in to avoid taking out the neighbor's arbor videa. That was a bit of fun, but she's home and safe and connected to shore power.

I did notice some moisture near the entrance of two of the exterior hatches, but suspect that our recent snow that piled up on the sides may be the culprit there. I am going to clean the seals and apply silicone grease to see if that helps. Some heat in the trailer will help too. Thoughts???

Does anyone know where to get fitted sheets for the master? We have a six sleeper, so the contours of the mattress are a little weird. I suspect there are some links in the forum, but I haven't explored enough to find them. I have also not found the link to edit my profile to change the status from "Currently Looking" to the stats on the new baby.

Since we also have a CDory boat, I am thinking of naming her the "Land Dory".

Sounds like you are getting things figured out quickly. As a former Oregon coast dweller in Netarts and Tillamook, (I finally came to my senses and moved East) plan to add some heat to your trailer year-around. You are in a very moist climate. From my experience one or two 60 watt light bulbs in the winter and one in the summer, 24 hours a day, will do wonders for the interior and do not cost as much as a heater. I use a couple of portable lamps on the floor to get good convection currents. Also supply a little ventilation the does not allow rain, fog, or drizzle to enter.
Have fun with your new aquisition. You are in the land of year round camping.

Steve, to edit your profile, go to the User CP page, look on the left and it says you can click on something that says "edit profile". It's right at the top.

I'm sure there are very expensive fitted RV sheets for weird sized beds, but you could just buy regular fitted sheets and do some sewing (in my case, that means asking Barb to do it, pleeeze?).

We have one exterior door and a little water would get in. There was carpet inside (dumb Airstream!) and I took some visqueen and taped it down with duct tape to make sure the carpet didn't get wet and start to rot. Silicone is a good idea. Perhaps the seals are aging, though I think new ones leak sometimes (like ours, but very little).
