RV Pilgrim asking about hail damage

With a last name like Pilgrim you would think I grew up in an RV. Alas, not quite. There is an ad from a person who specializes in salvage Airstreams. The one I am interested in has hail damage: http://www.airstreamclassifieds.com/...-28-florida-3/

Is it foolish to even consider this unit? Besides the cosmetics - which are definitely a major consideration - is there anything besides leaks I need to consider.

My bro-in-law until his recent retirement worked in auto body for decades. I can ask him for an opinion. I'm going to be in S Florida over Christmas and can take a first hand look. But I don't want to waste time looking at something I should not consider.

Thanks in advance for your feedback. - Jim Pilgrim

Thats a lot of damage it's totaled as far as I'm concerned but if you can stand to look at it thats your choice . it needs a bunch of metal replacement you will never get those dings out .

Heavy dents in aluminum are not repairable without replacing the panel/segment. This is a very expensive and labor intesive option, which is why heavily hail damaged trailers get totaled.

To me, esthetics is what these trailers are all about. I would be bothered by the dents every time I look at the trailer.

good luck!

If it has a salvage title then insuring and or selling it will be difficult.

Last time I heard it was about $1,200 per panel to have them replaced.
If you got it cheap enough, it might be worth it.

If the unit is not leaking another option would be to body fill the dents and paint the top. To be right I agree it needs panel replacement, if you are buying to use and love the paint method could save you some money and give satisfactory results.
