Hey together,
a couple of weeks ago we found this great site, that with all its tips&tricks and huge (and hopefully friendly*g*) community finally convinced us to restore an airstreams by ourselves. It's been a long dream for us to restore and own a customized airstream, since simply buying a new caravan or airstream is something anyone (with the required amount of cash) can do. We'd like to have an individual and tailormade caravan that accompanies us for a long time.
We're in our mid 20s, live in Germany and are looking for a 25ft(+/-2ft) Tradewind(late 60s-80s design) that is large enough to fit two adults,two kids and a dog and small enough to be able to easily to it through the more or less narrow roads in central/southern europe (i.e. alpine village roads and tiny italian campgrounds
) Right now we're still in the planning phase, considering the equipment and furniture that has to be installed. Most of the original furniture and fittings won't be used, as we want to combine the old and classic looks of an airstream with a modern, more european interiour(and we're not talking cuckooclocks or Bratwurst signs on the walls here
).
We've already gotten a lot of information out the forum, but still a couple of questions remain:
- How exactly is the shell/hull of the airstream mounted on the frame/floor? We've seen a couple of pictures where the aluminum sheets have been riveted to the C-Channel. Is this really the only connection of the shell with the floor or are additionally the ribs/spars joined with the frame?
Is there a (schematic) explosion view of this in the forum?
- Can anyone provide us with a more or less precise floor plan of a 25ft Tradewind (late 60s - 70s) so that we can figure out and get going with the furniture and equipement planing?
