Scott,
First and foremost, thank you for your dedication and service to our nation. It is truly appreciated.
Second, welcome to the forums and good luck on your search and purchase.
Just as a note, one important consideration for us, as we restored our A/Ss, was to have a bed configuration that allows each of us to get out of bed on our own side of the bed. It is unfortunate that at some point in your life, it's not as much fun to climb over each other in the middle of the night as it once was. This also avoids the occasional surprise back against a cold wall effect. Many of the new layouts incorporate this feature, although often in the slightly longer (27-28 ft) models. (Either front or rear bedrooms).
If interested, the attached thread includes how we managed that criteria in our '68 Overlander (26 ft):

We did something similar in our '64 Safari (22 ft) and it is documented on 64airstream.com, although we haven't updated that site for a long time.
Enjoy the search and welcome. We hope to cross your path,
Roy and Marie
