Howdy from Texas Hill Country!

New Member here, been lurking for a while reading the forums to get educated on the Airstream brand and lifestyle. Spent most of my life @ 35,000 feet (C5 Galaxy) traversing the globe so now I just want to see America via an Airstream. Just purchased our new tow vehicle (Toyota Tundra 5.7L) so were half way there! We have visited our local Airstream dealer to get acquainted with the different sizes and planning on hitting the RV shows in Jan\Feb. We like 23\25' since it can accomodate 2 adults & 2 dogs comfortably. Plus, we don't want to be limited to certain parks based on size.

Congratulations on your new tow vehicle, we have enjoyed our Tundra and it's done a great job pulling our 25' Flying Cloud. Have fun picking out your new Airstream.

Scott,

First and foremost, thank you for your dedication and service to our nation. It is truly appreciated.

Second, welcome to the forums and good luck on your search and purchase.

Just as a note, one important consideration for us, as we restored our A/Ss, was to have a bed configuration that allows each of us to get out of bed on our own side of the bed. It is unfortunate that at some point in your life, it's not as much fun to climb over each other in the middle of the night as it once was. This also avoids the occasional surprise back against a cold wall effect. Many of the new layouts incorporate this feature, although often in the slightly longer (27-28 ft) models. (Either front or rear bedrooms).

If interested, the attached thread includes how we managed that criteria in our '68 Overlander (26 ft): http://www.airforums.com/forums/f394...er-155180.html

We did something similar in our '64 Safari (22 ft) and it is documented on 64airstream.com, although we haven't updated that site for a long time.

Enjoy the search and welcome. We hope to cross your path,

Roy and Marie

Alright! Another guy with style. Were living in our 1954 Airstream Cruiser down in Port Aransas. I spent 9 years in the Corps and 4 in the Air Guard. Kind of wish I would have got the 20. We started out with a 2004 22" CCD. Nice rig but too small. Then we went to a 1970 27" Overlander. Now were in this old 54 cruiser. I started last Nov. Built from the ground up the way I want it. Lots of work but very satisfying. You can't go wrong with any airstream. Welcome aboard. Cheers, Mike

Scott, as Bwoods said, there are new Airstreams to Vintage models at Blanco State Park right now. Saturday afternoon we will have an open house event which will afford you an opportunity to see the trailers in action, right in your backyard.

Scott

we are currently towing Safari 23 with Tundra double cab 5.7 liter V8 Great combination. Our only complaint is that the Safari bathroom/shower combo is a little cramps but we are older folks. It also gets a little tight on space for longer trips 10-14 days.

I think if possible at some point we might move up to 25 to get the separate shower and queen bed, but in terms of towing, the Tundra will do a great job with either length.

Welcome to Forums and the Airstream world

Dana

Thanks for the great info. The more I look, the more I like the twin beds due to the fact I get up a lot at night to pee and I wouldn't disturb the wife. Seen some wonderful vintage restores online too.

Welcome Scott...from Granbury Tx! We love the Hill Country. Many nice places to visit and camp. Seems it;s becoming the wine capitol of Texas with all the wineries. Good luck in your search for the perfect shiny home on wheels...
