Brock & Susan (new 4 us Airstream)

Just purchased a 2007 Bambi 19 Airstream
Drove it home to North Vancouver, from Revelstoke, British Columbia using a BMW X5 as a tow vehicle - all seemed fine!

Now we are modifying the back yard to install a concrete slab to have a place to store it on our properety.

I'm sure we will have lots of questions, so we will have to dig deep into the forums, I guess.

Looking forward to this new adventure!

Congratulations on your new Bambi! We tow our little 16 ft Bambi behind our BMW X5 too. Does a great job for us. We also keep our AS at home on our driveway. We are thinking about adding onto our garage so we can store it inside during the winter. So much rain here, and your weather is pretty similar to ours here in Oregon!

Have fun and looking forward to seeing photos!!!

Congrats! Welcome We are also fairly recent owners of a Bambi (16') and stuck in rainy conditions (Vancouver Island). Ours is parked out front but we're hoping for something covered soon.
I've heard really great things about towing with the BMW X5. Sounds like a great set up! There's lots to learn from this site and has been very helpful for us newbies.

Have a ton of fun out there!

Congrat's

Hi:
I'm just in Ferndale south of the border on I-5.
Happy for you and you're new Bambi.
Just a thought, you can save a lot of money by simply laying concrete pavers where you need them (best is two deep and stager the joint by 1/2) Unless you're in a particularly wet and soft spot.
Cheers

I think a slab in the backyard for storage is an excellent idea, and I'm very envious you have this capability.

Plant a few flowers around it, and run an extension cord for electricity when needed.

It will become a very, very cool guest house and retreat for your youngsters when they get older.

Have a great time!

Yeah, we laid a couple of tons of gravel bordered with some railroad ties, added solar lights, adirondack chairs, bird feeder & flowers and now our 25' International has become a very popular "guest house" for family and our college kids. The 30 AMP plug-in keeps everything humming.

A few ideas -
1 - You are gonna LOVE your Bambi & wanna use her as often as possible! A good thing.
2 - If your HOA will allow backyard storage, put in your slab or pavers, but also consider a good shed-type covering as well. Believe it or not, THEY ALL leak eventually. A shed is a great idea & makes sense while you are in the build stage.
3 - Run some 30 amp. electricity, water & see if you can tie your storage site into your home's sewage line. That way your Bambi is completely usable at all times, even when parked at home.

Word To The Wise - I've let family & friends overnight in my Airstream - THEY ALL WANT TO EXPERIENCE an Airstream!! But RV's don't "work" like home systems, and things always got broken & that costs (always ME) a ton to fix (shower hinges & shower door lock, a toilet, a window, etc.). So, my rule is that NOBODY sleeps in my Airstream. They can take over the entire house, but nobody gets the Airstream.

Congratulations on a great decision you won't regret.

The only people who have wanted to sleep in the Interstate besides us are the grandchildren, who are not even allowed inside unless one of us is in there.

No play or reading time in our little buggy, thank you. Too many buttons to touch, push and flip---and then, there's that toilet with the foot pedal!

As to covering/shelter, even a carport would do well for shade and weather, and you could still look at that lovely aluminum.

We used to keep the Interstate and, before that, the Barth in the far corner of our backyard, until we fenced it in which made getting it back there impossible. Also, had to be pulled out of deep snow twice for those January trips south.

City ordinance prohibits parking an RV in your drive or front yard, so we have to rent a storage space after November 1 for however long we are home before April 1 when we can again park in the drive.

Yes, the Interstate, fits their criteria, as it has a bathroom.

Congratulations and welcome to another (north) West Coaster!!

We live south of the border West of Puget sound, so our weather will be similar to yours. We are in the process of installing a "Carport" for the trailer (actually a 24'X36' pole building); we are close to the roof installing stage - can't wait to have it done.

Anyway, I am sure you will have a great time with your new addition to the family!!
