1971 Sovereign Renovation in Temple, Texas

My wife and I recently purchased a 1971 Sovereign 31'. We plan to do a major "renovation" instead of a total "restoration". The trailer is in pretty good shape. All of the appliances work, the frame appears to have just superficial surface rust, and the only floor rot I've found (so far) is in one corner of the bathroom behind the tub.

I've already replaced the Univolt with a new Power Max converter and all of the electrical systems work fine (12v and 110v). I also have gutted the bathroom.

We are nurses by trade, but have a lot of experience building stuff. I built a Sonex airplane from just a set of plans. It flies great, by the way. We also have built several teardrop style campers totally from scratch, including the trailer frames. I'm a pretty good welder. We are blessed to have a brand new 25x50' shop space to work on this project.

We have always loved Airstreams and are really excited about this project. We look forward to getting to know the folks on this great forum.

Welcome from another couple who recently purchased an Airstream. Your project sounds like a great adventure and you sound like your certainly up to the task. Please share pictures of your renovation. My wife and I are interested in finding an older Airstream down he road and doing a renovation to set up for a B & B.

Welcome!

We remodeled a 72 a couple of years ago, it was the most fun project I have ever done.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Good Luck!

I just jumped in and got a '70 Sovereign last week with same layout. I'd love to know your bathroom plans.

Welcome. I got my '71 Sovereign last December and finished the renovation a couple of months ago.
