This is an AC circuit. At 25 feet for 30 amps, only 12 gauge would be required. The circuit also has a 30 amp breaker to protect it and I do not run the A/C on the circuit. The wires from the batteries to the Magnum are 4/0 gauge and fused.

Hi trumpetguy,

The sofa is fairly easy to move. Take out the drawer. There are six screws going through the metal frame into the sub-floor (two per leg). You should also remove the arm rest on the street-side (held by 4-5 screws into the floor and wall). You will need two people to pick it up and move it out of the way (or out of the trailer).

This all started with a reference to 10 gauge already being present "for an inverter". That's a very heavy chunk of wire for an inverter AC side and a very light piece of wire for the DC side.

If it's on the AC side, that suggests it's a full trailer transfer switch setup for a 30A trailer or a half trailer transfer for a 50A trailer. Either way it's not a stock chunk of wire for an inverter.

I'd be very sure what's going where before I did a lot of this or that.

Hi Bob,

If you read my posts carefully, you will find that everything is copacetic.

The main alternating current (AC) wiring is all 10 gauge going out of the Magnum inverter. The inlet-side of the Magnum is 4/0 (that is 0000) for the direct current (DC) wiring coming from the batteries. This is over-kill for both, but I like over-designing. This circuit was also blessed by Lewster when originally installed.

Dave. I don’t see the original Converter in your picture of the Magnum. I realize that the charging function of the converter would be disabled, but did you just remove the converter and connect the 12v circuits straight to the batteries?

Another question for Bob or Dave.
Is there any reason not to connect my 2 Crown AGM batteries to the existing house batteries. That would give me a few more Amp hours. I know the charging profile is different for agm and I would program the Magnum for AGM. The house batteries are group 24 so I don’t mind sacrificing them.

David,

I did remove the converter as it was not needed and taking up space (and that is where I put the Magnum). I moved the 12 volt buss bars to the wooden panel behind the Magnum (see picture). The buss bars are connected directly to the batteries at the battery switch on the positive side and the battery management shunt on the negative side (see the diagram I posted).

On the batteries, I would not mix them because of the different profiles and because the weakest battery (read older battery) will always draw down the stronger batteries.

You do not want to connect different brands / types / ages of batteries in parallel. The charging / equalizing process is tough even with same / same batteries. It really can break down when you toss in a variety of makes and models ( = one battery does all the work / wears out fast / kills the rest of them ).

Dave. I had to push the reset button on the Magnum several times when it was in my former AS. How accessible is that button with your installation?

It is not readily accessible because it is on the back of the Magnum which I have facing the front wall, but the one time I had to manually reset, I just turned off/on the AC and DC power to the Magnum and that did it. There may be another way to do it from the remote too. If you called Magnum tech line, they could tell you for sure (they are very helpful)

If I was doing the install again, I would probably try to rotate the unit 90 degrees to the left or right, but that would make the routing of the DC battery cables more difficult and the metal frame of the couch may come into play. The Magnum would also not fit inside the existing wooden fuse box. It would take some careful figuring.

Call Magnum before you make a decision.

I had not thought about turning the power off. So you turned the batteries off plus flipped the main breaker and that did it? I did read up on doing a reset from the remote but could not find any info.

Yes. I disconnected the shore power at the breaker and I disconnected the batteries with a heavy-duty Blue Seas marine switch on the battery cables (the red switch in the picture) to reset.

Call Magnum tech line at 425-353-8833 and they can tell you if you can reset with the remote.
