Maybe buying a new Airstream

Hi folks,

Not sure this is the right place to post this, but here goes. The better half and I have kicked around buying a new Airstream for some time now, but can't find exactly what we want. What we do know is that we don't want a corner bed, or corner bath! We have a Safari 25SS right now and both the bath and the bed are a bit of a pain!

So, we were wondering if Airstream would build a customized trailer for us. I know they do for "special" people (i.e. movie stars) but how about us ordinary people.

What we are looking for is the following:
  • 28 foot Airstream with:
    • Classic windows
    • Wrap around front window
    • Safari interior including carpeted walls, vinyl ceiling and Safari furniture
Think they would build it for us?

Please let me know if anyone else has had experience in buying/building a customized trailer.

Thanks as always,

Sounds like you want a 28ft Classic with Safari furniture. They may do something like that since the layout is the same. I had some custom work done to my 25' Classic when it was being built. You have to go through a dealer. They submit the changes you want and it will go to a committee for approval or rejection.Takes about a week or two to get an answer.

custom orders?

well they don't really do this for anyone anymore.

some dealers can highly modify or customize a unit...

as craftsman suggests a classic could have the safari furnishings and lockers added...

but that would be EXPENSIVE,

because u'd need to start with a complete trailer and buy another set of insides....

the unit you are describing is basically a plain jane safari (fuzzywalls) with classic/international upgraded windows....

they stopped producing the plain jane safari model, 1-2 years ago (robertsunrus has one, pm him) ...

so u could find a used one and add the windows, but that would be expensive too, especially the end wraps...

another approach would be buy an international/ccd model, because they already have the classic windows and wraps...

then add fuzzy walls and padded vinyl ceiling OVER the shinny stuff...

and change out the furnishing...again all expensive to do...

your best option really is to buy a traditional classic with queen bed and redecorate to suit...

and sadly THESE are vanishing too...

being replaced by the dumbarse frontbed/reardoor layout....

so...find a NEARLY NEW one in 25 or 28 ft lengths...

cheers

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks that putting the door aft of the wheel is awkward looking... and frankly - ugly.
