Ac circuit breaker trips

I have a 2011 23FC. The converter was replaced two years ago. Getting ready to go on a trip while packing the trailer we have had the ac on and it keeps tripping the breaker. Any ideas?

Are you on a regular 15 amp house plug? That's not sufficient to run the AC, possibly damaging it. You need 30 amp service.

If you are tripping the breaker for your shore power source then take a look to see that your plug is not shorted. You may also have a defective breaker - they can only be tripped so many times. And as richw46 says, if you're using an adapter to plug into a 15 or 20 amp outlet then there is not sufficient current available to run the AC. I once melted a 30 to 20 amp adapter this way.

If you are tripping the breaker in the trailer then take a look at your AC unit. Our motorhome has this issue.
- Have you cleaned it lately? Dirt and crud in the exterior components can cause it to run hot and trip a breaker.
- Does the AC unit need recharged? Low on freon charge will cause the compressor to be harder to turn, meaning the electric motor has to work harder, and your breaker trips.

One of these days I need to get on top of the motorhome and clean out our AC units....

Your ac unit is not rechargeable, unless you have someone modify the unit. It not cost effective to do this, cheaper to replace the ac unit.
Low refrigerant in most likely not the cause of a tripped breaker.

Is it running a while then tripping? Or, is it tripping immediately?

When plugged into 15amp shore power and nothing else in the AS turned on except the charger, I can run the AC on low, high kicks the circuit breaker.

Have you tested the incoming power? Are you getting 120 volts on startup? I assume that it's the breaker in the trailer? Have you looked at the switches and inside the a/c for anything loose or smoked-looking?

I had this very same problem on my 1999 excella. Changed out the breaker first. Easy fix. Same problem started following season on the new breaker. Checked all the voltages and the were fine on my 30 amp home service where I keep it parked so after asking the same questions all around we just finaly got a whole new unit installed. No issues since and the unit is even cooler then the original. Happy so far and its been 4 months with the wife using the AS for her little get away every couple of days.

Not enough Electrical Supply POWER.

The A/C wants more power than you have available.

Better stop doing what you are doing.

My Breaker was doing the same thing .
Went to Ace Hardware and bought coil cleaner and cleaned the AC coils
(Exterior) the AC ran more efficient and the breaker was stable again.

My guess is that there is not enough power reaching the AC unit, due to wire size not being sufficient for carrying current the distance to the trailer. There is power loss due to the length of wiring from the meter, through the house's wiring, through the trailer's power cord, then through the trailer's wiring. There is also some loss at each place the cord is plugged in, unless the connection is in perfect condition.

When the AC is running on high place a thermometer against the intake (at the air filter) to see what the air temperature is going into the unit. Then place a thermometer where the air is coming out. You should see approximately 18 degrees (+/- a couple) difference in those two reading. If it's in this range you know that the refrigerant charge is good.
