310 Step replacement
Anyone used a Kwickee step on a classic as a replacement?I am thinking of using a 39 series single step rather than trying to repair my damaged step.Any suggestions.
Thanks

Yes, I replaced our step with the Kwikee double step. Works fine.

I too put in a Kwickee double step. Much more reliable than the old vacuum step.
I suspect a single would be too high to reach easily.

Do you remember which model kwikee double you used? I assume that a 31 ft would have the same height as yours.Trying not to order and then have to return.

I, on the other hand, HAVE repaired my steps(Kwikee doubles)...twice...nothing that a grinder, an anvil, a hand sledge, and a lot of coarse language can't overcome... oh, yeah, the cheater bar did come in handy for fine-tuning...mike

Wally, when the vacuum step died we did the Kwickee double double step replacement because the single made for a looong step down and caused a couple of falls. It is a simple DIY job except for the electrical hookups - you have to be careful to follow directions exactly in that regard. The "new" steps have now operated flawlessly for 14 years. Good luck with the job.

Rebuilt mine and it works, they wanted too much for the motor, did a google search and found the motor was actually a rear window lift motor from a Taurus. The original had corroded with white metal casing dissolving onto the shaft. Try to make sure water is kept away from this product, gee to bad it has to be installed outside, right behind the front wheel splash zone. Good engineering guarantees sale of next product again. We could use the double step when the front hydraulics have lifted otherwise the single is good.

Installing my Kwikee Double 35 now!
Wow what a job installing these in the 310! First the bolt holes do not match and you will need to drill new ones in the new step and mounting metal. That was not to much of a problem.
The Battery tray, a whole other thing .
The standard 12v batterys the big ones, will not fit becuse of the linkage of the step going back so far. I was going to 2, 6 volt batterys anyway so that helped with the clearance problem with the step, but droped the tray about 1/2" to clear my new battery door.
I will have to keep the batterys up to the frame to keep them away from the step linkage.
I also had to notch the battery tray to clear the step to keep from taking off 1" the whole length.
It will be worth the time for the extra step, I have had the wife fall off once already and she and the grand daughters have a problem with the high step that we had.
Will post some photos when I get closer to winding this project up.

Beware of high curbs
The double step is great, but beware if you are on a swale or near a high curb. With the engine running, when the door opens, the steps go down and can jam on a curb or high pad. I have not broken them yet, but believe if jammed real good that you could.

That actually happened to us yesterday at a rest area ...had to jump out, shut the door, and kick the bottom step toward the unit...the steps then retracted...

Steps conplete
Here is the new steps installed. They are 32 series instead of the 35, sorry about that.
The 6 volt batterys clear ok after droping the tray 1/2" and keep them to the back of the tray. I place a rubber strip behind them to keep them from rubbing the frame.
The new control on these units has a load sensing circuit that detects an overload on the motor. I have stood in front of the steps to check it out, and tho the bump is not soft, it should keep from tearing up person or steps. It just stops and once the switch is closed, they retract before going back out.
The wife and Grand daughters love it!
