The forcast for San Antonio is for a high of 78 today and an overnight low of 56. Tommorrow is expected to be 80 with an overnight low again of 56. Then a cool front comes through dropping temperatures to 67 with a low of 45 followed by a high of 62 with a low of 52. Weather is looking good for the rally, though one never knows. After all, this is Texas, but that is one of the reasons San Antonio was selected as the rally site. Generally, one can expect better weather that far south.

I know that there are a few of us getting down to the last minute to spruce up/load up/get ready for towing....
Weather here in Houston is a bit on the cool side this weekend for comfortable outdoor activity - especially in the wind. Good thing we still have next weekend - the extended forecast shows the upcoming weekend as warm and sunnt - hope it lasts through the rally week.

Man, I STILL don't have the Television hooked up in the bedroom AND I still have to adjust the new hitch - talk about getting down to the wire to finish up - and now I have to go out of town for work for a few days.
Anyone else cutting the time-line close for the Vintage Rally?

Minor Repairs
Our friendly dealer, Camper Clinic II of Buda, Texas, will be on site at the rally with four new Airstreams to salivate over.
Camper Clinic will have a tech on site to do MINOR repairs and adjustments for the cost of the parts only. By MINOR repairs and adjustments, we mean such things as replacing a water heater thermocouple, replacing popped rivets, replacing light bulbs, replacing a drawer slide, replacing a sliding door trolley, replacing window seals, replacing a trim inserts, adjusting a water heater damper; things of that general level of complexity.
They are very limited in what parts that they can bring with them. If you know that you need this service and there is a part involved, please call the parts department at Camper Clinic II at (866) 363-5158. Explain that the part will be needed at the Vintage Rally and what parts you require.
Most or all repairs will be made on Friday, February 6th. Some repairs may be made in the afternoon of Thursday, February 5.

After a last moment chat with Whitsend on the phone today, I might try to make it down. I would be flying to San Antonio on Friday, and would fly out Sunday. I need to locate a nearby hotel that isn't too far out of the way of the rally.
Anyone have any thoughts that immediately come to mind?
Steve
*On Edit*
I have made a tentative reservation at the Braunig Lake Comfort Inn for Friday and Saturday night. Airfare seems a descent price, but will have to look further into it tomorrow. Hopefully I can make it down there this weekend.

Plans official, but I hate Priceline.com
I found airfare and a rental car for a great deal to arrive Thursday in San Antonio. Unfortunately for me, Priceline.com required that they chose the flight times. I had never used the site before, but heard mixed results. Priceline booked the latest leaving flight on Thursday for my trip to San Antonio, and booked the earliest flight on Sunday (6:00 AM ) for my return.
My 3.5 days just got cut to 2 in a matter of seconds
Too bad I'll be having too much fun to let it get to me!
See you all next Thursday, and with my hotel in stumbling distance from the rally....who's got the first round j/k

The Schedule is Available!
Go to the Region 9 website and go to the very bottom of the home page. Click on the button to display a printable pdf file with the schedule and notes. This is the info that will be in the rally booklet.

We are down to four days until we leave for Texas. The weather here is supposed to be better in the next few days. James has pulled the Silver Skinned Maxine into the front yard; she has rivers of clear frozen ice running down her sides. When the sun comes out in the next few days it should melt the ice, snow, sleet from her roof. Hope we don't have any unexpected leaks. I have been driving my car in this stuff all week. What usually takes me 1 hour (50 miles) to drive to work took me 2 hours the first day. This morning was only 1 1/2 hr, hope it is better this afternoon.
James had to take one of the propane tanks in as the valve was leaking. They installed a new valve, the sad part was the tank was full and we lost that propane $$$$$.
The people coming from Canada probably think we are all wimps driving in this ice/sleet/snow.

Almost all back together
"talk about getting down to the wire to finish up - Anyone else cutting the time-line close for the Vintage Rally?" 87MH
This past weekend my 1976 31' Sovereign was sitting in my driveway on "Jack Stands" with the old axles laying off to the side. It was cold and nasty weather here in the Houston area but I was able to get my 2 helpers out and we installed the 2 new Henschen axles and Kodiak Disc Brakes and finished the job on Monday. I was able to get out for a short test dive on Tuesday and everything seems fine. I will have the trailer home again this weekend to finish up and clean everything. Also while I was waiting to install the new axles I also remodeled the kitchen with a new frig. Few loose ends to finish there as well this coming weekend. The weather forecast looks good for next week and I am sure looking forward to the rally. see everyone there.

Weather Bust.....
Looks like the two full days I will have at the rally (Sat and Sun) will be when the showers will be. While not excited about the prospect of rain, it surely beats the seven inches of snow we got last night.
I have promised myself that I will have a good time no matter what.

What's the weather like at TAHI? We are coming through Louisiana now and considered a few days there before the rally. It looks like it may be cold and we may go south before the rally.
The other Canadians escaping the cold and ice.

We need rain desperately in South Texas, so I'm not taking any talk of rain seriously. Besides the weather-guessers don't do well 6 or 7 days out. The daytime highs are in the 60's and nighttime lows in the mid to upper 30's. What's that to you Canadians? 4 to 15C?

Need to correct myself...I will be there Friday and Saturday.
On a side note, any idea how many Flying Clouds will be in attendance at the rally?

That's about right but it sounds colder in C Degrees. Does anyone know of a good (and cheap) park, south of Huston within a days drive to the rally?

Doug, I can think of 2 state parks close to Houston...Brazos Bend St. Park in Richmond, and Stephen Austin SP in San Felipe. Brazos Bend requires you to drive through Houston (and I am not sure what Hurricane Ike did to it.) Stephen Austin is a bit to the west of Houston. Further south and west is Lake Texana SP near Edna. Due West on I-10 is Palmetto SP near Gonzales. Due south on the Gulf is Quintana Beach County Park. Again I do not know its condition after Ike. You can look up phone numbers on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. You'll pay in the neighborhood of $20/night at a state park. Oh, and I forgot...Gonzales has a city park.

South Texas
Doug....
If your so inclined go all the way to the Valley. Its only 4 hours South of San Antonio. Hot weather, visit Mexico and see lots of Winter Texans (Canadians). The State Park at Three Rivers....not much to do and they have Alligators. Port Aransas on the coast. Or, something by Kerrville for a short stay. I can send contact info if you let me know where youd like to head.
P.S. Do not, ever, trust Texas weather forecasts.
