Perhaps the guy behind Oat Willie's...? or are you thinking of Mr Crumb...?
or the guy who did such things as a drawing of an oak tree growing out of Frank Erwin's head...?(after the expansion of Longhorn Stadium was slated to take out a bunch of old oaks...people were chaining themselves to the trees...)...
Dating myself here(NO, not that way), but I went to Threadgill's on north Lamar when it was an old gas station...Kenneth sang, yodeled(SP?) and occasionally played rhythm with a straw broom on the floor...Bill Neely was his guitar man(REALLY good)...
Despite my mental meandering, does any of that strike a familiar chord?

threadgills and more
ok I sort of hijacked this thread...so I think I should give it back. I was thinking Jim Franklin...strange man for sure, painted all those murals on the ceiling, stood up on stage and recited this little poem that among other peculiar statements...the peas on your knife aren't peas anymore.
Threadgills was closed by the time I got to Austin...but I actually went to school with his Kenneths grandkids. I remember listening to him yodel frequently at the beer garden maybe even at Taco Flats.

By the way, if Oat Willy and AWH make you creak, what about the Vulcan Gas and Light...Congress and 5th(I think?)...Rocky Erikson and the 13th Floor Elevators played there...
I actually worked the auction at AWH, after it closed...that's where I got Franklin's ink of the oak tree growing out of Erwin's head...

Oh, I sort of had some pretty foggy times at Armadillo back in the late 60s. Sitting on the floor, and cans all around for ash trays that only few were using for cigarettes.
I still miss Austin; lived there from 68 to 89. Alas, when I go back for my yearly meeting (univ stuff), I just get depressed. It's waaaaay too big now.

HELLO FELLOW BALLOONIES!!
Work has had me absolutely slammed over the past few months - but I now have some things more under control - so the planning for this begins!! Lewster was here last weekend and that was my goal to start planning this since he is one of the planning committee members.
If you are even thinking about attending this great rally, let me know like yesterday - I'll be depositing everyones checks and sending the balloon folks money this week - they have been so nice in letting me keep this open, but we need to get this going - final payment will be due next month.
Looking forward to this!!

Glad to hear things are on track. We were wondering when you would cash our deposit check. We're really looking forward to the Fiesta. Just tell us when to send the balance of the payment.

Any advice on where an Airstreamer can stay that can't stick around till the 7th?
Greets.
I'm going to the fiesta this year, but have to head out Sunday morning.
Any recommendations for other RV campsites around town?

I would check with the Fiesta. They have several different areas for RV's. The VIP area where we were last year was as good as it gets. You could walk to the field or just sit outside your trailer and watch as they floated over your head.

Gee,
If my check doesn't bounce, can I have another margarita...? Since the Flat Tire didn't disperse very well, last year(had to drink almost all of it myself), should I put myself through that particular difficulty, AGAIN...?(burp)...
Ken, we could come early and set up the unnecessary ballot box and the bribe station...but committeeing us would be just what the voices want us to think is the right thing, so we'd just rather do scut work, instead...
The generator works ok, the awning doesn't require Lew's mega-goosenecks(bought my own pair), and the doc at the ABQ ER told me I could blow my nose after a couple of months...maybe...without inflating my left eye like a ...well...balloon...
Will New Mexico require me to register my tiara, or can I just place my name in the registry at Dollar General?

Hmmm a bribe station - you may want to consider that - the competition is pretty intense....
Ah what do these country doctors know anyway....

Today I sent off the deposit to the balloon folks which means you all will feel a little lighter in your bank accounts as I've deposited all of your checks.
We have 29 trailers which is a very nice size rally - I promise a really great time.
There are four of us on the organizing committee this year and so stay tuned as we get this planned.
Similar to the Vintage Restoration Rally, we will keep in touch with everyone via e-mail with several newsletters leading up to the rally - so be on the watch for those.
Balloon on!!!
