Casini Ranch and Russian River are Tarantula Free zone... Only natural hazard is potential for water if river rises a little fast..

Tarantula's were unwelcome guests at Lake San Antonio near Paso Robles, where hot and dry October contributed to spirited migration and mating season right through our campground.. At least one guy didn't make it across, after he climbed a tree next to several campsites...

California tarantulas are not particularly poisonous. Only black widows get credit for being medically significant. The wandering tarantulas are pretty gentle creatures, actually. When I was a kid we used to carry them around and watch them up close as they crawled delicately across our hands and arms. They are wonderfully fuzzy.

Whether you enjoy getting close to nature or not, tarantulas in California are nothing to worry about. In dry areas, it is a good idea to check your shoes for scorpions, though.

Your friendly California Tarantula. They are almost cuddly

This one was almost as big as a kitten.

But don't get me started on Black Widows, or the Brown Recluse

What's this about the water rising fast? I'm concerned. I've already been warned that my specific site is located in somewhat of a ponding basin and that I should pack goloshes and a snorkel. And you know what they say about April showers....
Also, maybe we can talk about the potluck rather than spiders. I'm not afraid of much...just jury duty and spiders.

Cara, as you pull into Casini, you'll see this sign on your right. Pretty much everyone except may F troop, will be well below this sign.

True...although unlikely... those in F troop could wake up to a toxic water front.

I've done several jury duties, the major risk is dying of boredom, but will be glad to provide some info about how to survive it if you are "selected."

BTW, in addition to snorkel, an anchor may be useful if you don't have oar ports or a mast on the A/S.

I can't believe the Rally is just around the corner. Finally got some new shoes for the Flying Cloud. Next season I'll have to do the brakes. Vinnie may need some help with that.

Oh, for you pet lovers. I found this really cool website for custom pet tags.

We've never been to Casini Ranch before, what's the bike riding situation like there? Any easy bike trails for a leisurely bike ride?

I think you should earn your keep...by videoing the brake work from your comfy chair so you can share it with the rest of us!

It would have to be a silent movie.. there may be alot of profanity

Oh and Mrs Mod.. Casini is big enough to ride your bike around and you might even want to take a little ride into Duncan Mills.. a yummy bakery there.

Probably the only profanity going on would most likely me saying" bleep, I can't believe I knock over Vinnie's beer again".

GOOD answer...good answer. But Lynn and I like to cruise over there in the convertible. A bicycle is gett'n to be too much work for me.

Cara, we took our bicycles last year. The campground is big enough for a decent ride everyday. But then you can also ride into the quaint little town just a few blocks away where there are restaurants, antique stores, etc.
