Thumbs up What is it and how do you make it

I was just lurking around the rally site and found the pics from the 2009 campout. What was that "meatloaf" (?) that started with a lattice of bacon? How do you make it. Looked really good.

There's a nice big gas station close to Whittington Woods. S. Ill can be hit and miss as far as services are concerned. The larger towns will have them. And there are lots of them along the interstate.

Just got word from Sugarfoot. She is 83 miles away off Hwy 64 in Nashville, IL.

Kingfisher, did you have a chance to hit the covered bridge and mill at Burfordville? It was pretty close to where you were.

We picked up Marbles Yoga, and the manager from Airstream of Chicago (with family). Current count at 17 trailers.

3 DAYS!

Steve

The latest

Sugarfoot arrived, but she brought the rain with her! We got her unhitched and she is outside fixing up the trailer to her liking. Looks like we will watch Avatar tonight since she has never seen it.

Tomorrow we'll hit the Budweiser Brewery Tour, the Arch, and look for a few other interesting historical areas.

I have also updated the map to reflect all 17 known attendees.

Sorry to hear my Midwest Airstreamer friends are getting a little H2O on their party. Out of consideration, and in good taste of course, I won't mention that we're enjoying a week of absolutely gorgeous weather on the beach at Destin. As of yet, no oil to contend with either. The only downer is that we are the only Airstream in the park. I am happy for those that want and have them, but this place is full of motor homes and they pretty much all look the same. We are the only camper in the park that is not running their air conditioners. We, instead, are enjoying the great breeze with all windows open. Seriously, hope you all have a great rally and we are looking forward to hooking up at perhaps another rally later this year.

Most of the gas stations along Illinois Route 3 between East Cape Girardeau, Illinois and Chester, Illinois went out of business in the years immediately following the fuel crises of the 1970s/1980s. There are still several fuel stations in close proximity to that section of the highway, but you must travel a "short" distance off of the main road. One of the reasons that the gas stations are in close proximity to the state line on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River is that up until very recently the state tax on motor fuels was significantly less in Missouri and border residents often traveled to Missouri to fuel their vehicles. The places where gas stations can still be found include:
  1. Off of Route 3 along Illinois 146 in Jonesboro, Illinois - - two convenience stores along 146.
  2. Off of Route 3 in the town of Wolf Lake, Illinois - - one convenience store.
  3. Off of Route 3 in the town of Grand Tower, Illinois - - one convenience store.
  4. Off of Route 3 on Illinois 149 about 1 mile West -- large convenience store and fuel stop.
  5. Off of Route 3 in the town of Jacob, Illinois -- small corner fuel station.
  6. Off of Route 3 in the town of Raddle, Illinois -- small corner fuel station.
  7. In Chester at Illinois Route 3 and Illinois Route 150 -- large fuel station and convenience store.
  8. In Chester on Illinois Route 3 at the North edge of town -- large fuel station and convenience store.
I have lived in this area most of my life and can certainly understand why visitors woulf find fuel hard to find. None of these stations advertise along the highway that I know of, and they also maintain hours typical of small-town stations (some aren't open on Sunday, and most close around dusk).

Chester, Illinois is Popeye's creator's, Elzie Crisler Segar's, hometown. In fact, many of the characters in the comic strip were said to be based upon residents and friends of the creator who called Chester home. The annual festival and picnic is really something to see as is the museum and gift shop located in downtown Chester.

Maybe second one in

Kingfisher,

Currently installing the floats on the Airstream for the trip to the rally. Looks like several bands of storms between us and Rend Lake. Hopefully we will roll in this evening.
