I'm still havin' fun

Thanks all, the new grand is doing great.....and Poppy ain't too bad either.

Dropped in on Terry and Anne this evening, toasted the great weekend and gave a lesson on forums 101. Both of us together can't type or spell, but had a good time trying.

Denise, counting on seeing you guys at the Spring rally. Maybe it will be your inaugural outing. We will bring the champagne.

Lake Wateree State Park

Friends, everyone seemed to enjoy the Park, so I vote we stick with it for the March rally also. No date set yet, but we will look at the possibilities soon. It is popular with fishermen and their tournaments so we will need to clear them. March is still early for many campers/fishermen so if we work hard perhaps we can fill the park up with aluminum. We already fall well within the 11 month reservation window, so when we get the date set, plunk down the bucks early for a site. You can always cancel or they will allow you to move your reservation to another date.

I am just glad it is only 6 short months till we meet again. Soon we will close out this thread and start a new 2014 thread, so keep an eye out for it.

I am still enjoying the great pix by Lisa, reliving the moment. And now I know who was enjoying the PBR's. I spotted a dead soldier in the recycle bucket, wondered who's it was. I've had more than my share of 'em in my day.

And Jesse, love my new beret and megaphone. They will go everywhere with me. The possum skin looks a whole lot better on you than me. When I wore it, it was hard to tell which end of the possum you were looking at.

As a side note, baby Sayla Grace, mom and dad are all doing well. Phillip said the first nite at home was a long one, not much sleep. I said, don't worry, you will get used to it......you will never get another good nights sleep the rest of your life!!!!

Dang I love this place.

We made it home without hitting anything but still getting whiffs of skunk even though all has been washed down. March at Wateree is a great idea. Bill & I are game. We met so many great people - can't wait to see y'all again!

Lake Wateree Rally

Sandlapper and Sue, thank you for being focused to have a great gathering of fellow Airstreamers last weekend. Man did that weekend fly by fast!!!!! We are all excited about the latest addition to your family and the timing of the delivery. Anne and I look forward to sharing more rally weekends with this group of Airstream friends in future years .

We hope to see some of the merry group the third weekend in Oct. 17-20 at the State Rally at Palmetto Cove RV Park, Cleveland, SC. If the weather is the same as it has been the last two years with will be a great, relaxing weekend in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Anne and I look forward to the announcement of the date and place of the March Alumalina rally.

Kind regards and safe travels,

Ashworth's #21189

Thanks John and Anne, the new grand is a keeper. And lucky us, she lives across the street from us. Let the spoiling begin.

I second your invitation for folks to join everyone at the Palmetto Cove for the Carolinas State Rally. A WBCCI event open to ALL airstreamers, in a beautiful setting in the SC mountains. I have it listed on the Rally calender at the bottom of the PORTAL Page. Usually around 50 rigs show up. If anyone needs any info just let me know.

Hard to believe that 1 week ago today we were all enjoying each others company and scarfing up possum bog. I'm thinking we need to make it at least a 5 day rally!!!!!!!!

Barrys Coconut Merigue

Even before the meal was served, the cake was vandalized!

Ok, maybe that's too strong, it was really just shared.

Sue wants to make one now, but the recipe was lost in the translation (verbal). I hope that Barry will still share! (the recipe of course, the meringue is long gone!)

I suppose I can be coaxed....and will post the recipe for the frosting in a day or so. As you'll see in another post, my 2014 Ram 2500 arrived and I've been getting it ready for SilverLeaf's first tow with a diesel. Am heading to Charlotte tomorrow to see my son and family just to get some miles on it. Still marveling at the absolutely wonderful time I had at Lake Wateree with all off you, and will anxiously await the March rerun. Hugs to all! Barry

Thanks for your reply Barry. Sue will ne thrilled, and since we sent that picture to other friends, we'll also share!

It was nice there and we're already booked there, albeit for the wrong dates. (We canceled/postponed our trip waiting to hear the arrangements for my Dad's memorial, which was subsequently set for 10/5, so we re-booked the same site we had and paid again).

Adding sunrise in Muffled (Myrtle, gotta love autocorrect) Beach picture. I'll see if it attaches.

Folks,

Tip of the Beret to Sandlapper for his putting this event together. Not sure what the magic formula is, maybe gather, enjoy, eat and repeat. One this that I think is a testament to the event is that about half of the attendees arrived a day early.

This was our longest outing, we left and went to an (to all I asked or told) unknown SP in NC, Stone Mountain.

We found our site in this 8 year old section built for trailers and RV's and the view was worth the trip. Our view of the mountain and trees was a big plus. We saw deer every day in camp but Sat when we left.

This is a real hidden unknown gem of a park. Large to good sized sites, paved with large tent pads, picinc table and raised fire ring. The older section is tent to small trailer sites on a hill, unique placement and a few had spectacular under the trees forest views.

We did a bunch of day trips to nearby cities including Boone, Blowing Rock, Wilkesboro, Valle Crucis, Winston Salem, Colfax, Dobson and Mt. Airy.

Dobson has a real nice winery, Shelton. Colfax stopped in said hey to Terry at OODM, visited two Mast General Stores and Mt. Airy was just starting Mayberry Days. We did pretty good for not having a solidly researched plan.

BTW, Boone is home to Appalachian State University. Sandlapper graduated from ASU he claims and we found his initials in a park bench to prove it too. We drove around a bit and did some people watching of the students and if you visit ASU I think you'll see where John gets some of his uniqueness from. Hard to explain.

Stone MT SP deserves a look at if you are looking for a quiet mountain getaway park. Pretty sure we're going back next fall. also has waterfall a few hundred feet off of the road too.

And the guy that posted a pic of his cast iron collection forgot to take a small breakfast cast iron skillet, duh! We did introduce two other couples to the box oven, it does what? Neither couple had ever seen one in use.

Looking forward to the next time. Linda did a great job keeping things in order and being my camping buddy.

Hey Gary, sounds like the rally got you started off right on a really great trip. We will definately be taking a look at Stone Mtn SP ourselves. Back in the day, I raked around all over those mtns, don't know how I missed that one.

And yep, that thin mountain air had a lasting effect on me for sure. Now you all know why........!!!!!

John,

Maybe we can plan a trip together if schedules permit. Sharing a truck for the day trips and having a "local guide" can't hurt.

I pulled the pics from Linda's camera and I want to add this one, doesn't need much of a description.

Sounds good to me.

Now, if we could just figure out a way around this work/job thing.

Well, it's Sunday moring and hard to believe a week has gone by since our gathering. Just looked over all the wonderful pix again that Lisa took and relived the great time. For any late comers to this thread, do yourself a favor and look at her pictures (Towjob1975). Then go ahead and pencil in March of 2014 for the next gathering. We will throw out a few dates later.
