As already quoted the number 1256 is not in the current 2011 directory. In the past numbers have been re-issued within 2 years.
Not much history could be found on this number in the 27 directories I have.
Here is what I did find
1968-1970
Listed to a couple in Lakewood Ohio
1982-1985
Not in directory
1986-1998
Listed to a couple in Coshocton Ohio
1999-2004
Not in dierectory
2005-2010
Listed to a couple from Texas
There were no caravans listed for any of the owners listed above.
Hope this helps

Just wanted to say thank you for all the help on the number 1256! I contacted WBCCI and the number is not currently available but I might try for something similar that will mask the "ghost" of the original numbers. Was hoping for a caravan history but I guess I'll have to do that myself!!!

Sorry I am late to the party, but I've got some additional information to add. #1256 was first assigned in 1958, obviously before your '63 Overlander was built.
The earliest Directory that I have is 1960 and from then through the 1973 Directory, #1256 is assigned to Bill and Florence Minch of Lakewood, OH, no caravans. The Minchs could have upgraded from an earlier Airstream to your 1963 Overlander at some point, but I have no proof to back up the possibility.
I have no 1974 Directory, but from 1975 through 1979, #1256 is assigned to Jack and Jennie Winch, also of Lakewood, OH, no caravans. It is certainly possible that the Winchs bought their Airstream from the Minchs and therefore took over their WBCCI number.
As partially stated before, #1256 is unassigned from 1980 thru 1985, but from 1986 to 1998 is then assigned to Richard & Jean Burchfield, orignally from Akron, OH and later Coshocton, OH, no caravans.
The information I have from 1999 on agrees with what you have already been told. I will not name more recent people who have been assigned #1256 for privacy reasons.
I will guess that it is likely that one or more of the Ohio couples owned your Overlander because of the closer proximity to NH (than to Texas), but there are no club records to prove it. It will take paperwork with prior owner names to prove anything, but a dealer decal from in or near Ohio would certainly support the Ohio theory.
Enjoy your Overlander!

Thank you Joe! There are no dealer decals but there are other decals from businesses in Ohio (like an archery business...) therefore Im guessing that this was an Ohio based trailer and probably never made it to Texas! Wish I could keep the number tho

Sure sounds too coincidental. One letter change. Probably their son? My trailer hasn't had many owners, but it lost ownership of it's #. Someone has it right now. Oh well. New life; new #...

I know! I thought it was too close to be a coincidence too! I really wish the numbers stayed with the trailer!!! So much more intuitive...ya think I could amend The WBCCI rules LOL????

I doubt it was a typo, because both last names were consistent for the full year ranges listed: 1960-73 for the Minchs and 1975-79 for the Winchs. If one was a typo, I'd have expected it to be corrected the next year (people like their names spelled correctly). It is either an unusual coincidence, or else the younger legally changed their name for some reason.

Interesting thread. I've started trying to do an initial exterior cleaning of our 66 Globetrotter and found the ghost of number 15367. Do you happen to have any record of that number in your archives? I know this unit has been in the Northeast since the 80's but know nothing about prior to that.
Thanks

Hi Greg & Mary,
#15367 was first assigned in 1966, so it is almost assuredly original to your '66 Globetrotter. The first directory I have the shows #15367 is the 1968 Directory that show membership as of 12/31/1967. In it, #15367 is assigned to Fred and Claire Turner of Methuen, Mass., no caravans. The Turners are very likely the original owners of your trailer. The Turners are last listed in the 1979 Directory, still in Methuen, MA, no caravans. #15367 is unassigned from the 1980 through 2011 Directories making it almost a certainty that the Turners owned your Globetrotter.
That's all I have. Enjoy that Airstream!

Hi, I wondered what info might be out there about #11540? The numbers still look fresh on our 73 sovereign. I believe it was in VA for several years.

Hi RaleighAir,
#11540 was first assigned in 1964, years before your '73 Sovereign was built. While this number was originally assigned to someone else, in the 1969 to 1978 Directories, #11540 was assigned to Ed and Reta Melone of Downers Grove, IL, no caravans. Interestingly, the Melones are not listed in the 1972 Directory, but return in 1973. Did they just renew too late to be included in 1972? Or did they sell an earlier Airstream and not rejoin until they bought a new 1973 model? We may never know.
#11540 is then unassigned in the 1979 to 1983 Directories, before being assigned to William and Magdalene Simpson of Jacksonville, FL in 1984 and 1985, no caravans. #11540 has been unassigned from 1986 to 2011.
Thus, we can deduce that either the Melones, the Simpsons, or both owned your Sovereign. Without other clues, such as a dealer sticker on the trailer from an area near either of these couples, or names on paperwork you got with the trailer, we cannot tell for sure.
In any case, enjoy your Airstream!

Can I ask about my newly assigned number? I know about the number that my trailer had, but that's being used by someone else. My new number is 1464. Rae

#1464 was first assigned in 1961. I do not have any Directories from that time period. The first I have that shows #1464 is 1966, at which time it was assigned to Harold and Faye Berry of Clearwater, FL, caravan #44 Western Canada Summer 1965. They may or may not have been the original assignees in 1961.
Given that this number is not currently on your trailer, I will not take the time to search through all of my subsequent directories as each case takes a bit of time. I hope you'll understand that my efforts are mainly to help people discover the possible history of their Airstream trailers.
In any case, enjoy your airstream and it's "new" number!

That's fine-- thanks :-) I like history so it's more curiosity than anything else. I appreciate the effort!
I am sure my AS will wear it proudly.

Joe, I'd love to know what you find about WBCCI number 18242, it's on a 1967 Safari. Born in Jackson Center, I believe, but I bought it in California in 2006. Thinking of joining the club and the vintage club, but I only get to travel spring and fall, so I can't usually make summer events. :-( Thank you in advance!

Hi:
I own a 1973 land overlander with a # 13022 removed
I also own another 1960 overlander # 23915 removed
I bought both of these trailers in Georgia.
I was wondering the history and who registered those numbers. Just interested in the people.

I'm interested to know anything on wbcci#21326... page 201 on a posting I can't seem to find again, page 200-ish shows it as open... perhaps... but I'm new to all this and any help would be most appreciated. (Image of old # is in my gallery if that matters)

This is rather interesting. Oddly enough, my mother along with all of the females in her family stretching back as far as I've seen personal handwriting for, all inverted assorted letters in the Alphabet. "W"'s were written "M"'s & vice versa & "n"'s were "u"'s so this may be a genetic thing. Believe it or not, I have several old flannel sheets that came from my mothers family (her maiden name was Ponder) that have "Pouder" stamped on them. I suspect this was from some sort of laundry service or perhaps a kid's camp markings. I have never heard of this quasi dislexia before but I do get a good chuckle everytime I see them. Incidently, I've been using them in my trailer for years.
