17771 was first issued in 1968 to George and Vivian Faketty from Kalamazoo, MI. It has likely been used by others over the years. If your trailer model is newer than 1968, the Faketty's were not its owner. We need the year your trailer was made to do a proper search.

Thanks for looking into it Dwight. My A.S is a 1969 Sovereign 31'. So is it possible that the number 17771 has been changed? It looks like the old owner had been a W.B member at one time because there's stickers of rallies in the early 80's. There is a old residue of a number I think its #15099 but its really old? Thanks again Dwight?

In 1974, 15099 was assigned to Harry and Audrea Ashcraft from Baton Rouge LA. It is anyone's guess whether they owned your trailer at one time, as the numbers are frequently reassigned. In 1979 15099 it was assigned to the Sillis from Durant OK. It went unassigned much of the 1980's and does not appear in the `90's directories or 2005.

Can someone check wbcci 7209? It's for sale near me, no title and seller doesn't know anything about. It looks 30'+ Late 50's curious where it originated.

Thanks!

7209 shows up in my 1967 Directory as belonging to Herbert and Mildred La Morder from Oldsmar, FL. That is pretty close to where the trailer is now, but we can not be absolutely certain that they were the ones that put that number on the trailer.

Joe, just PMed you about photos of #2948 for archives but my PM acted weird and may not have gone to you. If you don't receive the PM, let me know so I can get these photos to you. Don't know how else to get hold of you. Thanks!

26952 is listed in the 1974 WBCCI Directory as belonging to Walter and Wilma Ress from Albert Lee MN. No caravans were listed.

More recently (1988-2005),the number was listed to a couple from Bismarck ND.The couple attended at least 6 International rallies during those years but no caravans are listed.

If the number on the trailer looks very old and faded it, it could have been the original number put on the trailer by the people from MN. If the numbers still look in somewhat good shape, the ND people could have bought the trailer from MN got the number reassigned to them and bought new decals. They used the trailer for 17 years, so the numbers still would be pretty faded. If you get their name, you might be able to call them to get the story a first hand. PM me, if you want it. The trailer would have had to travel from North Dakota to California to get to your hands.

Hi! Looking to have someone look up mine and my neighbors. Mine was 2616 for a 64 overlander. There are weird patches inside the trailer made with old license plates from Connecticut and New Hampshire. I believe that 2616 now belongs to someoneone else unfortunately, so I'll have to chose a similar number if I move forward with joining the WBCCI. A couple doors down from me I just saw a newer (than mine) Airstream with 17714, but haven't seen the owner home to make an aquaintance.

Rob.

In 1966 directory 2616 was assigned to George and Arlene Conners West Buxton, Maine. In 1979 Leitch had that number and lived in Mission TX.

17714 is currently listed to a couple in Raleigh, NC. They could have sold their trailer to your neighbor and he might not have taken the previous owner's numbers off.

I'm looking at a 1963 Tradewind that has the ghost numbers 30476. It looks to have Wally's Caravan decals on the trailer as well.
If there is any available history on this trailer,PO info and or numbers I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks in advance.

In 1964 the numbers did not go that high. In 1977 30476 Was assigned to Ray and Thelma Morgan from Hugoton, KS. They show they were on caravan 107. We are not sure your trailer belonged to them, but it is possible.

If the 1963 Tradewind has the ghost outline of a rectangular "Wally Byam's Caravan" sticker on it, it indicates that the original owners joined the club immediately after buying it, because that sticker stopped being used in about 1963. If so, there would be an older WBCCI number of 4 digits or less under the 30476. If you trailer only has the Round Wally Byam Caravan Club Sticker, that could have been added by the original owners or any subsequent owners.

Regarding #30476, Dwight is correct in that the original assignees were the Morgans, when this number was first assigned in late 1975 or early 1976. I checked later directories and found that the Morgans had this number through 1985, at which time only Thelma was listed and was credited for several caravans:
  • 107 - Far East Mexico Winter 1976
  • 120 - Maritime Provinces Summer 1978
  • 122 - Mexico Winter 1979
  • 133 - Western Canada Summer 1979
  • 126 - Best of Mexico Winter 1980
  • R29 - Ozark Foliage Caravan Region 9 - 1980
Then in 1986 #30476 was assigned to an Earl and Thelma Shandy of Hugoton, KS, which appears to be a remarriage for Thelma, since they are credited with the same caravans. In 1987-1989 it is back again to just Thelma Morgan, possibly she out lived a second husband? By 1989, she had added another caravan, R108 Dixie Adventure Region 8 - 1988. Then in 1990-1992, #30476 is assigned to Frank Davidson and Thelma Morgan, of Hugoton, KS, same caravans. From 1993-2006, #30476 was again assigned to just Thelma Morgan.

What can we tell from this? Thelma Morgan and likely one of her husbands did in fact own the 1963 Tradewind, since no one else was ever assigned that number. What we don't know is when they owned it (they may have owned more than one Airstream over the years) and which caravans it may have gone on. We I to guess, I'd suggest this it is more likely that she and her first husband owned it in the 1970's rather than later, but I have no way to prove or disprove it. If my guess is correct, you may find evidence of caravans to Mexico, Canada, and other places on paperwork that may come with the Tradewind, or decals that might be on the trailer.

That's all I got. Good luck if you decide to purchase the Tradewind.

Wow that's a lot of information, thank very much.
It appears to have a rectangular Wally Byam's Caravan decals on it so hopefully I can find another number on it and find some more history on this super cool trailer.
I did go ahead and agree to purchase the trailer, owner has to find the title.
I did notice the trailer still has Kansas license plates so it makes sense the Morgans were previous owners.
Thanks again.
