I think some in WBCCI know that the demographics of Airstream owners and members are changing. Not only does the club have retirees, but a growing number of younger professionals, like myself, with a job and kids.

I was excited at the recent Rally I attended (The Old Time Fiddler's Special Event Rally) when Rene Ettline (wife of "Phred Sez" Fred Ettline) queried attendees who were still working and with kids, so that Region 3 could investigate some events that would be "Family Oriented". This is great, and about time.

I suggested something like a Rally at/near a Theme Park, such as Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion, Dollywood, etc. in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Airstream families could spend a week taking in all the thrill rides and other entertainment. Maybe WBCCI can get special rates and access to rides, shows, exhibits and such.

We'll see what happens.

We do not ordinarily include non-WBCCI members at our regular rallies, but the Vintage rally is special. In effect, it will be a buddy rally, and although vintage owners are especially invited, any Airstreamer would be welcome.

We did the same thing several years ago on a member's property near Lake Travis. We had a number of visitors at that rally; some joined, some did not. At that rally, the unit picked up the cost of the BBQ, but we had no cost for space. Next rally, there will be a small space cost, but we plan a pot-luck rather than serve a meal. The "donation" for the space should be minor and everyone pays for their own site.

Way to Go, Smiley!
I hope the Forum readers will read and digest. You and your age group, in our club, are making it work. It's great to sit back and watch you guys taking over and building on the old folk's' hard work. Yes, it is up to the younger generation. WBCCI will be in good hands. I really enjoy your article in the Blue Beret "Still Working"

I hope everybody sees here that 2airishuman is pointing out how WBCCI has been suffering for a long time not with an identity crisis but by the club's overall inability to mold itself to the change in demographic in the membership.
Every WBCCI topic that is being dug up has a common theme - the club ain't working. Nothing here really in the way of it being the name that ain't working....

Good job and thank you for pulling this stuff up.

i'm not pointing out suffering or anything of the sort......

i AM trying to suggest that:

1. using original/old threads makes note that the topic has been discussed. that doesn't mean we can't continue to post on the idea, but how 'bout just adding a comment to the original thread?
2. many folks have already commented with good thoughts....reading them is helpful.
3. using these older threads to expand or contribute with newer ideas, comments or posts is good!
4. it suggests i've read some history (listen before talking) and while i might think my next comment is BRILLIANT! others may have already said it better.
5. and just like paying tribute to wally it acknowledges that others have already contributed.
6. with anything wbcci related it's really easy because there is a whole separate subforum called 'wbcci' and it only has 3 pages of history so it's easy to review and scan quickly before starting a new wbcci thread.....with basically the same theme.
7. moderators often at a later time combine threads why not build on topics others have already started.
8. all of those folks who have already posted cared. they may not want to retype or may not be online, or may not care anymore or may have changed views, but there is, contained here, a very healthy spectrum of comments to BUILD UPON.
9. most topis wbcci related aren't new (that's not a judgement pro/con)
so info posted 2-3 years ago is still current.....sort of.
10. PLUS i learn something everytime i read an old thread!!
