Getting title on a "Junked" airstream CA

Just bought a 1965 Overlander 26 International.
It's gutted and needs a major restoration.
Problems are:
I only got a CA registration that dates Issued 1/11/94 Expired 1/31/94 and has the correct Vehicle ID numbers but it says JUNKED".
Got a hand written bill of sale from Ken X to the man I bought it from dated 10/2/96. He had it in a barn for 17 years as storage.
The man I bought it from gave me a hand written receipt.
13070 is the WBCCI number
Can any one give history or title advice please:
Del

Well, I would simply go ask at your local DMV in California. We had our car "totaled" because of hail damage (on a trip to Texas...) but we bought it back from the insurance company and had to title it again. The DMV required some kind of safety check, but other than paying more $ to the state we were able to obtain clear title easily. I would simply go in and ask. Tell them you want to restore it and use it!

Send a message via Skype™ to Zeppelinium
Get your previous owner to rewrite the bill of sale to a more recent date. If you go to CA DMV more than 10 days after the sale, they punish you by doubling the sales tax.
