Thanks for creating a thread that won't cause any controversy.

It's an open forum, and to each their own.

Yeah Ed. Right there with ya. That was a close one, eh? Or maybe the only thing that really matters to leadership is who gets the last word in WBCCI. It's not the name of the club or even the brand of recreational vehicle that's important to our International Board of Directors.

Controversy? There's no stinkin' controversy. In fact we can just call a do-over if there is even a hint of criticism. Just bury it and start with a clean slate. It is all just for fun and being good ambassadors and about our friends and the 5 freedoms outlined by whats his name? You know that cat in the hat. The one they get tired of telling people who he is, the one they would rather leave out of the name of the club to make bookings easier and readily identifiable without a lengthy explanation of WBCCI.

What I am wondering about is this. The self nominated leadership tells its membership that they own our posted words, and our member's forum, the record of public business meetings, and Wally's name, and the WBCCI logo; but actually don't the members own the club and rights through their membership dues as stockholders, especially a majority of stockholders?

Like Shane says... What did the club do?

I've been working, so I guess I've missed something over the last few days.

The leadership of the club voted to change the name to AOAI (2006) and the leadership of the club voted to allow other brands (non-Airstreams) of recreational vehicles into the club.(2007) And the leadership of the club has outlawed using Wally Byam's name for an alternative birthday rally.(2010)

What's this? You can badge any vehicle with an Airstream plaque whether Airstream has made it or not. What graphics would you like? Mid-Winter IBT Perry Georgia 2007

All in favor of allowing other brands of recreational vehicles into the "Airstream Owners Association" such as 4 Winds. Maybe we can open membership up to all members of 4 winds and increase membership.

Be wary! Who are the real keepers of your club and it's heritage and who just wants to lord it over?

He-He-He...
O.K., I'm still wondering (although I think I may already know,) what is the subject of this thread??? No reference? No link?
I am a member, yet have a life and do not have the time to follow every social web site in an attempt to keep up with the hoopla and silly drama! I'm almost byond the point of caring anymore.

Yes, these efforts by WBCCI are finally a move in the direction to protect the Wally Byam identity after years of trying to scuttle him completely by allowing dreadful looking box motorhomes into the club that truly deny the genius and beauty of Wally's (am I allowed to use his name here?) vision of what a recreational vehicle should be.

The club spent so many years, embarrassed by Wally's identity that they tried to change the name of the club to that which denies his involvement in the creation of the club because it was simply TOO hard to explain to people who he was.

This about face and apparent move to finally embrace Wally, his identity and importance to the club just warms my heart and gives me hope for the future of WBCCI.

Don't worry, be happy, go camping

Yes, “Thanks for protecting our club’s heritage.”
Now don’t worry, be happy, go camping and don’t try to rationalize.

Autocratic. Unaccountable.
Ascend to the ‘First Circle’ - -sans leadership qualifications.
Q.: Shouldn’t the ‘First Circle’ be entitled and entrusted to do whatever they determined is best for the rest of the membership without interference?
Maintaining the status quo trumps and longevity.
Members must understand and trust the ‘First Circle’s’ directives.

Q.: Isn’t it good to have rules and customs to follow for the sake of traditions?
Democratic clubs are difficult to control while maintaining the status quo.
Organizations need law and order to function. Change is a threat.
For the sake of peace and harmony, refrain from introducing new ideas.

“The club did the right thing.” Now don’t worry, be happy, go camping.

Remember Bobby McFerrin’s song:
Here's a little song i wrote,
You might want to sing it note for note,
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble,
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Dont worry be happy now
Dont worry be happy
Dont worry be happy
Dont worry be happy
Dont worry be happy

Now that we've saved our club's heritage, you'll be excited to know that one of our resident experts also has some excellent ideas on how to solve the club's budget problems that we created.

You're welcome!

Ah, but now that an independent group is going to do honor annually to the man singularly responsible for the Airstream trailer they finally see the light and want to try to prevent them from doing it by unleashing mad-dog lawyers.

Does this action truly represent the will of the members who are in essence the club?

I think not.
