Patio lite...changing bulb.
Hello.
My 19' CCDS has the outside, above door/patio light which is one of my favorite things on the AS.
I am wondering if anyone has tried to gain access to the bulb for replacement. My bulb does not need replacing, but I want to put a little piece of colored acetate behind the plastic bulb cover. The Fab Five told me to do this, and that it would drive the ladies at the campground insane with passion for yours truly.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to get the bulb protector off. There is a screw that holds the whole lamp housing to the side of the trailer, but the housing is caulked, and looks like a real hassle to deal with just so I can have a blue campsite at night!
There is also a phillips screw at the bottom of the light, that is so tight, it must have been tightened by the Byam spirit himself!
Any clues?
Jonathan

Jonathan, you will probably wind up breaking something trying to open it. I personally think, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If you really, really want to get the thing open, soak that screw in a good penetrating oil, or drill it out with a small bit, then remove it with a small pair of Vise Grips. It is probably rusted in its hole up inside the housing.
Good luck with it, anyway.

If it's anything like the light on my 1987 model, the caulk was doing more to hold it on than the screws were. Once I got the screws out, I was able to gently get a putty knife behind the caulk and I was able to pry the housing off.
You will need to clean it well and re-caulk it of course. It's time consuming, but not difficult. I just wish I had known to used the colored acetate - stupid me, I replaced it with clear.

how about putting the colored acetate on the out side of the lens, if the gals are insane they won't notice it is on the outside.
just an idea

I removed the cover from my outside light this morning (2002, 22' International AS). While enticing the ladies nearby with colorful surroundings sounds interesting, my bulb is either burned out (the trailers, not mine) or the switch or socket is bad.
The clear plastic lens was held in place by two screws from the bottom that extend into the body. A single screw centered in the top of the housing also had to be removed to get enough clearance to pry the clear plastic lens out. Not much involved at this point other than finding a similar bulb and or testing the old one to see if it is burned out. Can't really tell by looking, it looks OK but does not come on?
Seems the easiest way to change the color would be to change the color of the plastic lens. I will see if I can find similar material in "blue". Is that the magic color?
