Lightbulb two topics

The first:... spent a lovely week in southern Oregon with kids and grand kids. We have done this for the past three years, we rent a house and have everyone there. My eldest grand child (almost 4) is a bit confused because he is now convinced that we (the grandparents) are either a: gypsies, or b: have more houses than the Donald. Any way that is a long was to go to tell this story. There was a lake near by but due to recent water shortages was very low so I took the opportunity to show the "land yacht" at dock.

Second topic... I know a number of you.... well Portag any, way are members of WBCCI. We have just joined and received our packet recently. When I explained to "she who must be obeyed" the numbers were to go on Morrison (yes we have named it) she said " you are not putting those ugly things on MY pretty black van". So I ask what have you all done with the numbers ?

We do have ours on our trailer. At rallies I have seen others have put theirs on Plexiglas or some other material and display them in the window when stopped. If they are not displayed other WBCCI members will not know that you are WBCCI members.

I have never seen the WBCCI numbers on an Interstate.

There really isn't room, and when we were members for several years we did not display ours.

Last rally I attended with the Alabama unit there was an older Interstate with numbers on a board. It looked like it was held on with suction cups stuck to the windshield. It was pretty ragged looking inside and out. Owner said he was getting ready to gut it, rebuild the interior and get a new exterior paint job.

We bought stick-on numbers and letters at a hardware store and stuck them on a piece of plexiglass that we lean against our hitch at rallies. Tends to confuse the clipboard-crowd at rallies who look at the big red numbers on our trailer (PO's #s) and tell us we can't be pumped out because we're not on their list Then we point frantically at our plexiglass sign and so far it has worked. I guess we're either too lazy to take off the PO's #s or we like the history of keeping the old numbers too much.

I used to have my numbers on magnetic signs attached in front over the windshield and in back over the left-side rear window. That is, until I noticed some discoloring of the clear coat under the magnets. I got rid of the magnets, and now my Interstate goes "bald," just like me!

You can go online and set up magnetic signs from VistaPrint rather inexpensively. I have Good Sam, FMCA and Country Coach (still a member but an SOB) on magnetic signs for almost 10 months with no signs of discoloration underneath. But then I keep it in a garage when not using it.

I was just informed by my Sprinter salesman that Sprinters are single-stage painted, ie, no clear coat. Haven't tested it w/ some polish tho.

Hmmm. That would explain why there was discoloration. With no clear cost, the paint around the signs faded from UV exposure, but the paint under the signs didn't and that's why it looked darker.

I suppose that's good news for me, because it means with the signs gone, the darker patches will eventually lighten up to match the rest.

That's only true for white paint. Silver is clear coated, which is why it costs more. I'm not sure about black, but it also costs more.
