Pleated Day/Night Blinds Repair

Clear bobbin-like holder for blind on right rear door broken. Unscrewed bobbin from top mount. Turned bobbin over and drilled new hole in back side. Untied knots and retreaded cord in new hole. Remounted bobbin upside down. CAUTION - when remounting there will be tension on the cord as you put the bobbin back in place. If you lose control, the mounting screw may fall into the cavity behind the door panel.

As soon as the spirit moves me, I'll be replacing my pleated blinds with thermal curtains all around. The blinds do little to block heat transfer, and I'd rather not have to block the windows with Reflectix or Prodex in order to cope with sweltering Southern heat.

The cord tension is what holds the position of the blinds to where you position them. The tighter the tension, the more friction to hold them in place.

FWIW, my dealer re-strung 2 of my shades with thicker string. So at least I don't expect those to break again soon.

Has anyone tried fishing line to replace the string? It seems one could get stronger fishing line (more tension) than string or does the smoothness of the fishing line defeat the advantages?

Not sure how the friction system works but I have a feeling that it wouldn't be compatible with mono-filament fishing line.
