Odds & ends storage
While I had just thrown stuff loose under the side seats, decided that some things could work their way down into hard-to-reach areas. So here's my solution.
Nice for loose stuff and bedding.

Good idea. I may have to try that.

I can't quite tell from the pics and maybe this would not apply to a twin bed Interstate, but can you tell us a little about what you actually did/built here?
Thanks,
Wayne

By using cardboard and trial and error, I determined the maximum size of the flat bottom piece (1/4" luan plywood) that would go in without taking the seat off the frame. The side pieces are 1 X 2 firring strips. After working the completed unit through the opening, I attached the front edge of it to the vertical piece that was already installed by Airstream that was behind the door. It rests on the top of the wheelhouse. I may add another set of firring strips to the top edge now that it's installed to give it more depth if we decide to put small items in there.
I don't know if it would work on the twin bed model though.

Nice solution.
I did something similar, but not as nice looking. I bought some 'pick and pull' foam ( a sheet of packing foam that is perforated; you pick out pieces to form the shape that you want) and filled in the tight spaces around the wheel well. It keeps small parts from getting down there. On one top side of the wheel well, I store the airstream and other manuals in their 'tote bag'. On the other side, I store cutting boards and a collapsible strainer.
Behind the front access doors on the wheel wells, I store a number of those plastic organizer cases. One is an extensive 1st aid kit. One is part of my repair kit (zip ties, adhesives, hardware, etc). I also have a zip bag with computer cables, adaptors, etc). I also store some vinyl cleaner and kitchen counter cleaner there. I had to move back the flimsy divider closer to the wheel well to fit everything, but I'm surprised how much I can fit in the wheel well compartments from the top and front access ports.
I have a 2012 Interstate EXT Lounge version.

My 2014 has plastic storage trays here, did you remove those to make more room?

The storage trays must be an improvement on the 2014 model. On my 2013 the space under the side seats around the wheel wells is very limited. I plan to also expand this storage area myself.

I don't bother with trays or anything. I just store my power cords on the passenger side under the seat, and my hoses on the driver's side under the seat. Those items aren't small enough to get lost in the nooks and crannies, and they're flexible enough to conform to the shape of the available space.

That's good to know. I might like to order a pair from Airstream. Are you happy with them? Can you provide a pic?

Here are pics from 2014 Int Ext - underside of jumps seat over wheel well, you can see it will fit 24 cans of dog food at about 5" depth, so easily store a case of soda or your favorite drink in each side.
Odd that they left a full 2" between bottom of tray and wheel well. Similar to the wasted little cubby hole under the front passenger seat.
I wish they understood how useful even the smallest little cubby hole is for storage.

Here is photo of tray removed.
Tray is 22" wide x 15.5" long x 4" deep outside dimensions. ( there is 1.5" more useable depth due to seat frame)
Lip is .75" all the way around.

Note that the opening is bigger than the 2011s is.

I think so, frustrated by the waste of 2" below the tray ( 600 cubic inches) but they are easy to load, and great place for the dog food on one side, trash bags, tinfoil and kitchen stuff on the other.
My power cords are in the lower storage area in the rear. (Not best since I have to unload to get to them, I'm working on that.
This 7 day trek is my first outing and as always - trial by fire is the best teacher.

Whoa, I may order those trays too. I hope my opening under the seat is the same (mine is a 2013 Ext). Thanks for the pics.

Mine is a 2013 EXT too and supposedly with the 2014 upgrades, but no trays. In fact my cut-outs are both different sizes and neither is the same as MILATV's.
Are there any markings on the tray as to who makes them? I'm hoping they will have an assortment of sizes....Peter

No markings or part number, just a QC sticker with initials.

"No markings or part number, just a QC sticker with initials.":
When AS gets the online parts book posted for the 2014, you should be able to get the AS part number there.

We don't have trays, either, have always used heavy ziploc bags of varying sizes.
