Member Age Demographic Study
BobbyW had posted a poll to collect Community members ages. I tried to move the poll and screwed it up. So here it is again. If you voted before, please vote again!

Nice bell curve
I'm starting to feel lonely way out on the tail of the bell curve. Am I the only old fart here?
I wonder whether the curve represents A/S demographics, web-user demographics, or a combination of both. I'll bet it is the latter.

Ages
Do these results tell us the age of Airstreamers or the age of Airstreamers who use the internet and this forum?
Just wondering...

Q) Do you think the baby boomer's like airstreams?
A) Yes, I think Boomers do like Airstreams. The reason Airstream put the "Slide-out" feature in the newer models is so that the Boomers could put their Big Gigantic Screen HDTV's into the MH/Trailers.
Q)Do these results tell us the age of Airstreamers or the age of Airstreamers who use the internet and this forum?
A) Since only registered members can vote, this poll would only tell us ages of those that have joined the AirsteamForum family, which means you would have to have internet access. The poll does not ask if you actually own an Airstream product.
The Poll could also indicate that this is the more "Intelligent, Better Looking and Faster Living" Airstream crowd, which is what I tend to believe it does.

Interestingly enough, 50% of the respondents are 49 or younger. That seems to be consistent with the trend of younger RV buyers.
I consider myself intelligent. Some might disagree with me being better looking. As for faster living, Peter keeps telling me that 70-75 mph is too fast for my old motorhome.

Wrong Fred,
1.Intelligence
Young people THINK that old people are stupid.
Old people KNOW that young people are stupid.
2. better looking
Your Motorhome is good looking, you come in as a distant second
3. Faster living
75mph is not too fast for you and your old Motorhome. It's too fast for me sharing the road with you, since I do not want to loose my intelligence, good looks and fast life style.

Well, this poll sure puts the myth of " Only old people in Florida own Airstreams" to rest.

Bell-shaped curve
I'm amazed that there are no anomolies in the bell-shaped curve of member's ages. Takes me back to all those statistics classes!
I'll bet that the majority of the skew in the curve is because computer users are typically younger. I'll bet a true curve of Airstream owners indepent of computer use would peak at a much higher age.

Sorry John, I do see an anomaly...
It's not real apparent at first because the age brackets change from 10 year to 5 years segments after age 50.
Example:
20-29, 30-39, 40-49 = 10 years
50-54, 55-59, 60-64, etc. = 5 years
If you add the 50's or 60's together, you'll notice the bell curve doesn't drop off as rapidly as what it at first appears. Actually, their would be an anomaly in the 40-49 catagory (less people in their 40's than in their 50's).
Shari
P.S. Hey Andy, anyway to "fix this" so we only have 5 or 10 year groups, not both?

No fix...
There is a limit of 12 options per poll. So I dont see an easy fix to get more options. Sorry!

Andy,
Could you combine the 50-54 and the 55-59 into one ten-year category of 50-59? If you did the same for the 60s, at least all but the 70s would be in 10-year blocks.
Just a thought...

It's funny. When I first posted this poll my thinking was, due to stereotyping I guess, that there would not be as many people owning Airstreams in the 20-49 age group. Boy was I wrong. After spending so much time on here, my thoughts toward who we are have really changed.
On the other hand only about 136 of 1127 of the Family here have responded to the poll. Hmm...thats about how many stand up and are counted in a real election. Come on...folks. Its only a simple mouse click to be heard from here. And don't forget to really vote in November!!

So How does this work when you have move than one airstream and you and your mate are in different age categories. This would seem to skew results.

You and your mate can each have your own identity which would allow you both to vote...one for each trailer. Now if you have 3+ trailers, you have another problem!!! I think it's called aluminitus

A Thought
So we're not all geezes!
A comment was made that the ownership of Airstream trailers was expected to be heavily skewed to the older generations. However, the poll seems to indicate the opposite. 47% of the owners are 30 to 50. (I am just outside of this window; the winter side!)
To build a representative display of ownership and possibly explain why there are such large number of younger owners a poll should combine the age of the owner and the age of their trailer/MH. I would venture to guess the older demographic would be more heavily represented in the newer units and the younger clientele having more of the older, work intensive units.
This might enter into a three way poll to include the cost of purchase/rehab. Age and economics here, too, might be an influence on who owns what!
This could go on forever . . . why, even the Government might be persuaded to fund an extended, long term study of all facets of the Airstream! Lifetime employment for a VERY lucky moderator!!!
Just a thought.
Take care,
Sean
