refrigerator vent?

Hey All,
I cant find info on repairing the refrigerator vent in my argy,Can anybody help? This thing had a couple of little cracks along the door side edge and when i touched it a chunk of plastic broke out.I'm thinkin fiberglass or epoxie and just wanting to know what is the best way to go.Any help will be appreciated.Thanks

Replace it, since you cannot forecast where it will next fail.

A fiberglass replacement, is available.

It's actually called a "refrigerator scoop."

How is this thing replaced,do you have to take out the cabnets.Is this somthin I can prolly do myself? How much will it cost?

Find out what the reproduction scoop costs and you'll be getting out the fiberglass.

I have seen some very nice "scoops" made from wood and finished beautifully on some vintage units.

Nothing magic about it being fiberglass. Could also be done with aluminum.

It's not difficult to replace the reefer scoop.

Using wood for a scoop is an absolute "NO NO". One spark, from the burner, when the wood is good and warm, could cause a fire.

Anytime a mold must be made to recreate a limited number of parts, a huge expense is involved.

Perhaps the ones I have seen have some sort of fireproof lining. Or, perhaps they were merely a cosmetic cover over the original fiberglass.

I had a few cracks that originated at the rivet points. I drilled a hole at the end of each crack to keep it from running and went over the cracks with epoxy. Time will tell.

lol, I've learned the hard way, just do it right the first time. It's cheaper in the long run....and less headache....

Safety issues also, not worth taking th chance it hasn't fractured where you cant see and everything isn't venting outside...
