Hi summerkid--If you don't vote this time around, you have negated your right to complain about politics for the next two years. Me? I voted absentee last week, and will complain loudly for the next two years.--Frank S

PS: You still have time to vote today!

Richard,

A greater threat might be a dumb, uninformed, or unthinking voter. Higher voter turnout is more characteristic of dictatorships or worse, I'm afraid.

Those of us who have grown up with Illinois politics can understand summerkid's disillusionment.
The tip of the iceburg are the two corrupt buffoons running for govenor. Gerrymandered districts with no challengers and Chicagos famous vote early and often motto.
I, however, will be voting this afternoon for candidates in all the contested races. Like Frank I believe that if you don't vote you have no right to complain. And I do a lot of complaining.

I don't think voting is required to feel passionate about your country, you can feel just as passionate without voting for the jokers who are offering to run it. However, we vote by mail in ballot, so I voted weeks ago.

My only concern is making sure our local fire district continues to be well funded, because when the day comes that I actually chop off a finger in the workshop, I'd like to know the local Firemen will be coming to my rescue (they have a firehouse at the end of our block)!

You have to see the up side of the vote often issue. It lets me vote against both buffons (actually three counting the greens).

I agree

I sometimes can only motivate myself to go out and do it because I'd be really angry if the right was taken away from me. If I can't stand either evil, I just abstain, but I still get out there and vote for initiatives and the like.

Absentee

Jwolf and I vote permanant Absentee, so we sent in our ballots last week. Much better than driving 7 miles to the nearest polling place and standing in line after work.

Remember, if you don't vote, you can't complain!

going to vote shortly... Arizona has 19 propositions on the ballot this year that's right 19.. you have to sort through a lot of he said she said to get a perspective on these. So I did my homework.. now off to vote.

Hi summerkid--In reading all the posts on this thread, looks like you're the only one not voting. Still time.--Frank S

Just came back down to the shop after watching the noon news. Seems there are problems with the voting machines in minority precincts in Speaker of the House Hastert's district.
Like I said, Illinois politics.
Oh, well.....

Tom.

I like attitudes about not voting. It makes it easier to count all the hanging chads!
Seriously, when you do not vote you have no say in the direction our government takes.
I always hear non-voters complaining about both candidates. I always tell them, "Stop complaining and run for office then. If you think they both stink then throw your hat into the ring."
When it comes to voting I have three moral values that will keep me from voting for a candidate. If they do not meet ANY of the three moral values I cannot vote for them. This gives me peace of mind when voting. It has also changed which party I predominantly vote for.
Here in Michigan we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, (7.4% last month). Our gubernatorial race is hotly contested this time around. I am hoping we can turn this around, but we have to remember it takes more than politics to make jobs. We count too heavily on our leaders to make corporate society to invest in Americans doing work for America and spending our money in America. I wish we could vote on corporate leadership publicly!

That would be interesting. Since I work for a political sub division of the State of Arizona, the members of my board of directors were on the ballot this morning.
