Maybe rivets should be awarded for one's total thanks rather that total posts.
I wasn't here for karma, so I don't know how it works.

yeah. don't want the negative karma, but the positive is way better than the "thanks" function.

I sent some Air Karma your way, Boondocker.
It comes looking like thanks, but, here's the good part, it's really Air Karma.

Nyet to abusing the concept of Karma
First off, all you pro Karma guys need to read this.
Karma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Karma is an eastern religious concept. It is not some sort of a quantative thing that one being can bestow on another.
Since most of us are of western culture and, some of use feel a simple thanks to show appreciation is not sufficient, and they wish to use a religious concept to express it, perhaps we should use a western religious concept and bestow blessings and curses.

Maybe we could replace Karma with Kind Eggs. I like it.
I appreciate all the Thanks/Karma/Kind Eggs no matter what you call it.

This thread started in November of 2008. Since then, we've been edumacated more than once on the origins. Many times something morphs over time, as do words. Karma worked very well here for a long time, then I suppose someone got "offended".
It looks like we are stuck with "Thanks".
What I do wish we could lose now, is the second window telling me that I just gave thanks. I'm pretty sure I already knew I gave thanks.
If a mod can change that one, I'll give him/her some karma.

Dave, I'm afraid this solution is buried in mod-inaccessible reaches. Fiddling there could have dramatic results...
Karma? Thanks? Frank could call this saga an ouroboros.
Thanks is locked in place from what I know.

I think from some of the responses, that this post was taken more seriously than it was intended. I personally don't really care one way or the other.
I was simply providing an educational different point of view.
Perhaps I did not sufficiently emoticonize it.

Yeah, I was pretty sure of that. This thread has long enough teeth that pretty much all viewpoints have been aired.
I'm really OK with thanks, I just dislike some of the way society has gone so P.C.
I'll stop before I delve into politics.
Ken, I had no problem with what you said, I can see how you would have thought so though.

Hi Dave,
The reponses I am talking about were primarily from PM's.
No big deal. I just wanted to make people aware that I wasn't serious.
Often my sense of humor is a lot funnier to me than everyone else.
