Is there a way for one member to see another members 'thanks' rating? Is that what the 'rivet' status is? 'Thanks' rating vs. # of posts would factor into the credibility of a particular poster, IMHO.

Rivets come with more posts. 500 posts and you're a rivet master even if every post has been the product of a fool.

I think only the mods and owner can see number of thanks (besides yourself) and that's because they have superpowers.

Gene - when I mentioned giving rivets I wasn't thinking about the rivets you earn with posting messages. I was thinking of rivets in a karma sense - like something you'd give someone to say thanks, good luck, I hope you feel better etc etc. Since the word karma evokes bad vibes in some people I was thinking of something else to call it.

By the way Gene - how did you like Heron Lake?

Heron Lake is a very nice park and cheaper than Colorado parks. We enjoyed our stay there, got to see Rodney again and met a few other Airstreamers.

On a more serious level, if we are to have anything thanking or acknowledging karma, we also need a short message button. In the past few months the thanks button is being used for short messages, some of them thanks and some of them comments, messages and the like. It is easier to use the thanks button than send a PM. Of course adding a short message button would create other issues (doesn't every action have an equal and opposite reaction?). Would we have a count of short messages? Would we get fewer thanks? And when can I trade in my thanks for a prize? Aren't they like Green Stamps?

Hopefully you'll be able to join us for next year's rally at Heron.

Green stamps... I still have the laundry basket that my mother got me when I went to college. She got it for 1 book of green stamps.

I still miss karma

And I want it back. The poll was 54 to 12. I love everyone, and I'm sensitive and all that crap. Now BRING BACK KARMA. Thanks just sucks.

Without good karma we may be experiencing higher than normal bad juju and technical difficulties.

"Thanks" isn't even used for thanks a lot of the time. It's become short form private messages and comments that aren't actually "thanks" or "karma". They're more like that twitter thing, but private. At the least, we need another button down on the lower right for that—what to call it? "Quick message"—too long. "Hello, I think this"—even longer.

Maybe rivets should be awarded for one's total thanks rather that total posts.
I wasn't here for karma, so I don't know how it works.

yeah. don't want the negative karma, but the positive is way better than the "thanks" function.
